Born in Kingsley, son of the late Walter and Bernice Brown Oakley, he was a graduate of Harford High School. Following many years as a self-employed flagstone quarryman, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation at the Montrose facility before retiring in 1996.
Surviving are his wife Carol and seven children- Steven, Ann Palmer and husband Dave, Gerry, Sandy Capron, Penny Wheeler and husband Fred, Tim and wife Wendy, Michael and wife Michele, and 11 grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a sister Doris Nulton
Walt loved to be outdoors fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Harford Rod and Gun Club and the South Gibson Conservation Club. His activities included helping raise ring neck pheasants with the rod and gun club and trout with the conservation club. He most enjoyed sharing his hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren.
At his request there will be no services following cremation.
