On returning to Susquehanna County, she married William and raised their family on a dairy farm in Springville. Naomi enjoyed throughout her life gardening, quilting, ceramics, going to dances with her late husband and going to her sons and granddaughters many sporting events. She was also a dedicated member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom. Interment was held in the Lynn Cemetery. Jody E. Nowalk, 62, of Hop Bottom, passed into the Grace of the Lord on the 21st of December, 2021 at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He was a loyal husband to Mae Nowalk and a seeker in the search for the secret to get rich quick and broke in a hurry.
Jody was born in Scranton on September 8th, 1959 to Carl Nowalk Sr. and Thuvia (Sue) Henry. He endured a 20 year and 11 day enlistment in the United States Air Force where he served as a Tele-Communications NCO; Master of all things microwave, RF, and teletype. Serving in a rare and self-heralded MOS which was referred to as the “Water Walkers”, he helped connect the world; providing phone calls to home for all US service members he deemed worthy of joining him and his compatriots in playing games of pinochle. Having wore out his last deck of decent USAF-issued playing cards in 2000, he retired home to Hop Bottom where he then spent the next two decades lending his incredible experience to all he worked with in the fields of telecom and natural gas production. He will be missed by all those he worked “in the trenches” with. In addition to his bill-paying career, he carried his professional drive to many volunteer efforts. Jody carried life memberships with Factoryville Fire Company and Hop Bottom Hose Company, latter of which he served several years as board member and treasurer. He was known for his joyful and wise presence, as well as his willingness to teach skills or knowledge anyone had enough patience and caffeine to learn. His kindness and outgoing nature was distinctly known to many and all will miss his presence. In one of his last texts to his wife, he professed her to be “the center of his world” and his children to be his “bright planets.” Something he had reiterated throughout all our lives. Jody is survived by his wife of 36 short years, Mae, and children: Emogene and Husband Aaron, Suzanne and Fiancé Dave, Nikolas and Fiancé Siara, Patrick, and Anthony. His brother Carl Nowalk Jr., sister Rosemarie Stanziale and step-mother Nancy Nowalk. His Extended/Unoffically Adopted family Jim, Gertrude, Frank, Diane, Aaron, Adam, and Avery Billings. And several Farmall and Massey-Harris tractors that the kids promise to fix. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Nowalk Sr., and mother, Thuvia (Sue) Henry. A viewing will be held on December 26th, 3PM-5PM, at Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson PA. The funeral will be held December 27th, 11AM, at St. Patrick’s Church in Nicholson PA. Those who wish to attend the funeral mass are asked to go directly to the church. The procession will thereafter proceed to the Evergreen Woodlawn cemetery in Factoryville PA. Please dress appropriately (And casually) for the weather.
