Born in Dunmore, he is the son of the late Thomas McCarthy and Ruth Denniston.
He was a 1959 graduate of Dunmore High School, and was a lifelong over the road truck driver.
Surviving William are three daughters, Linda D’Amario and husband, Alphonse; Margaret Wilkins and husband, Keith; and Maureen Rafferty; one son, William McCarthy and companion, Karen Lamorte; one brother, Thomas McCarthy and wife, Toni; a sister, Mary Burrows and husband, Ed; a sister-in-law, Margo Swan; six grandchildren, Bryan Chapman and wife, Jenn; Kevin Chapman, Sara Hribar and husband, Matt; Kecia Wilkins and companion, Gary Tokash; Corey McCarthy and companion, Nicole Wharton; and Kayla Chapman and husband, Tyler; seven great-grandchildren, Karisn, Keden, Ethan, Aria, Harper, Domenick and Haylee, who is on her way; and nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Pat Rafferty; two brothers, Steve and Jack Denniston; three sisters, Jean and Ann Denniston and Nancy McCarthy.
A viewing will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson.
Funeral services and Interment in the Nicholson Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, in honor of his great-grandson, Domenick Chapman.
