![]() Marsha A. Creeley, CRNA, 65, passed away peacefully Saturday at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit, where she had been a resident since suffering a stroke in May 2010. Born June 25, 1947 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Elwood V. and Etta M. Hawk Squier of Nicholson. Marsha was a 1965 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School, a 1968 graduate of Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and a 1983 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Anesthesia. She worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital for over 20 years and was last employed until her illness at the Mountain Laurel Surgery Center in Honesdale. Marsha was a very loving and generous person who gave herself and time to help others, including teaching and working in a rural mission hospital in Zimbabwe, Africa. She enjoyed traveling to Arizona, sewing, watching her cooking shows, cooking and baking for her family and family gatherings. Her greatest joy was teaching and watching Hayley learn to cook on the weekends while she was at her Grandma Carol’s house. The family would like to thank Dr. Ruppenthal and the nurses and staff of Abington Manor for their kind and compassionate care. Marsha is survived by a daughter, Kymberly Creeley, Tuscon, AZ; two sisters, Janice Squier and Carol Pompey & husband Glen, all of Glenwood; a brother in law, Elwood Phelps of Hop Bottom; an Uncle and Aunt, Harry & Ann Hawk of Nicholson; nephews Timothy Phelps & wife Heather, Michael Pompey & wife Brianna, Daniel Pompey & fiancée Cieara Payne; great-nieces Hayley Pompey and Addison Phelps; step great-nieces Natalie & Kiersten Godoy, and several cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas E. Squier, and a sister Suzanne C. Phelps. Per Marsha’s request, she was cremated, and there will be no viewing. A private Interment service will be held in the Nicholson Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, Nicholson. ![]() Lucas Ryan Mitchell, age 26, of Hop Bottom, was sadly taken from his family and friends on Monday June 25th. Luke was the beloved fiancé of Sarah Corey and the father of their two daughters, the loves of his life, Abigail Helen and Molly Patricia. He was born in Tunkhannock on July 31st, 1985. Luke is the son of Theodore O. zech Jr. & wife Jennifer of Hop Bottom, and Christina Marie Mitchell Walters & husband Roger of Mehoopany. Luke was employed as a mechanic and truck driver for Clark’s Garage of Factoryville and a 2004 graduate of Mountain View High School. Luke will always be remembered for his ever present smile, quick wit, love of pranks, and of course, his daredevil antics. He was an avid rider of anything on 2,3, or 4 wheels-especially quads. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and any activities that involved family and friends. Luke was that shining star whose twinkle was taken far too soon. Luke was loved by all and will be missed forever. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Theodore O. zech Sr., maternal grandparents, Patricia Waddlington & George Robert Waddlington; step-grandparents Frank & Carol Remick and Lyman & Charlene Walters; four younger brothers Jody, Tyler, Roger, and Alex and a sister Samatha; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, & cousins. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00am from the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson with services by Pastor Phillip Richardson of the Hop Bottom United Methodist Church. George Bailey, 75, of Nicholson, died Friday at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock. His wife is the former Carol Brotzman. They were married April 16, 1968.
Born in Nicholson on Jan. 4, 1937, son of the late George and Virgie Ricker Bills Bailey, he attended the First Presbyterian Church of Nicholson. George retired from the state Department of Transportation and had also worked as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Nicholson Senior Citizens. Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy Logan and husband, Jeffrey, Nicholson; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George Gay, Tunkhannock; a granddaughter, Trish Stover and husband, Martin, Forkston; a great-grandson, Jon Logan; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, by Pastor Margaret Hartman of the First Presbyterian Church of Nicholson. Viewing will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with George's medical expenses. George Gilbert Schumacher, 51, of East Lemon, died Thursday June 7th, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Maryland, after being stricken ill.
His wife is the former Jean Ann Oakley, she was the love of his life for 15 years. Born April 22, 1961, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of Elizabeth Briel Schumacher of Clarks Summit and the late George Gilbert Schumacher. He grew up in Clarks Summit, and graduated from Abington Heights High School, class of 1980. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corp and served as a military policeman. He fought in Desert Storm during the Iraq War. After his service, he returned home to Northeast Pennsylvania and started to work in the trucking industry. He was currently employed by Meshoppen Stone, Meshoppen, Pa. George loved to travel on the open road, traveling from state to state, and always by his side, even at the end of his life, was his faithful and loyal companion, Brindle, his black lab. George was a huge fan of NASCAR and loved to watch the races on the weekends. He had a hobby of collecting old trains and would spend several hours working on them. George left this earth too soon and his dry savvy wit will be sorely missed. A Blessing Service by Father Thomas Petro will be held on Tuesday the 12th at 11:00am at the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson, Pa. Interment will follow in the Nicholson Cemetery with military honors by Nicholson American Legion Post#953. George’s family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations are asked to offset the medical fund for George's care at the hospital. ![]() Paul Ransom, age 95, of Nicholson, Benton Twp., passed away Saturday at home. Born February 24, 1917, in Lenox Twp., he was the son of the late William and Beatrice Winters Ransom. His wife was the former Ann Rosencrants, whom he married on June 5, 1937, and who passed away in 1981. They started dairy farming with nothing except their four hands and made a lifetime success of their business. He loved to hunt and fish and said he could never remember a time when he didn't have a dog. Paul loved the Lord Jesus and was fond of saying, "How could anyone not believe when you see the sun come up in the morning and move across the sky and set in the West at night; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Paul is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Darling and husband, Paul; three grandchildren, Mark and wife, Hazel; Jill Williams, who took care of him with love for the four years he was sick, and her husband, Wayne; and Eric Darling and wife, Maryellen; nine great-grandchildren, Cole, Katie and Caleb Darling; Janna Williams Conoway, Kelsey Williams, Ben Williams, Rebecca Darling, Sarah Darling and Isaac Darling. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Robert and Duane; and a sister, Maryellen. Paul had several great caring caregivers, and his last one, Mark Licayan, who was his "Buddy." She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin, who died in 1994.
She was born in Peckville, daughter of the late Mariano and Asunta Forbidussi Carpenetti. Jennie was a member of St. Patrick Church in Nicholson and formerly a member of Tops in Montrose. She was hardworking and loved by all who touched her life. Her life's work was taking care of her family. Jennie is survived by three sons, Albert Noble and wife, Sheila, of Tunkhannock; Searle Noble and wife, Jean, of Columbia, Md.; and Larry Noble of Kingsley; two daughters, Mary Ann Nowalk and husband, Russell, of Springville; and Irene Duggins and husband, Michael, of Saylorsburg; a brother, Theodore Carpenetti of Gilroy, Calif., 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Joyce Noble, Tulsa, Okla.; several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a son, Elmer, in 1993. Funeral services will be Monday from the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick Church, High Street, Nicholson, celebrated by Father Thomas Petro. Interment will be held in Holy Name of Mary Cemetery in Montrose. Viewing will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be provided by the family. Padula Jr., age 49, of Nicholson, passed away Tuesday May 29th at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
He was born in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of Robert J. Padula Sr. and Catherine Duffy Padula of Nicholson. Bob was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Nicholson, attended Nicholson Elementary and graduated in 1980 from Lackawanna Trail High School, where he played football, wrestled and participated in the co-op program working in his family's business, Padula & Sons Excavating. He became President of the third generation Padula & Sons Excavating, bringing it successfully into the 21st century with his father, Robert Sr. Bob enjoyed working, hunting, fishing and being with his six nieces and nephews, Ethan, Wyatt, Finn, Rachel, Patrick and Joseph. Bob also is survived by two sisters, Cathy Cawley and husband, Kevin of Abington, Pa.; Joann Ritter and husband, Brian of Nicholson; many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, as well as dedicated employees — his honorary brothers. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Angelo, who passed away in 1990. Funeral services will be Saturday June 2nd from the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, High Street, Nicholson, celebrated by Father Thomas Petro. Interment will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery, Starkville. Viewing will be held on Friday June 1st from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Bob's family asks that you do a good deed for someone today and pass along Bob's good nature. |
