Elizabeth “Betty” Boginski, 91, of Nicholson, died peacefully Saturday, April 29. Betty was born in Nicholson April 16, 1926, to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Moyer Eckert. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, in 2010. Betty was a passionate and dedicated mother and friend and she radiated with her gentle nature and infectious smile. She was an avid walker and enjoyed activities such as line and tap dancing, golfing and playing cards and belonged to a Book Club, Lunch Bunch group and the Nicholson Woman’s Club. She delighted in spending time with her family laughing, playing games and sharing stories. Betty was lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Divine Mercy prayer group. She and her family owned the Palace theaters in Nicholson and Hallstead.She was a graduate of Lackawanna Business school, Scranton, and worked at Williams Bakery, Binghamton, N.Y., before she was married. She was a teacher’s aide at Nicholson and Factoryville elementary schools from 1972-1996. Betty is survived by four daughters, Jean Knight and husband, Reggie; Debbie Smith; Lois Boginski; and Lisa Beller and husband, Robert; nine grandchildren, Sara Jordan, Travis Boginski, Ryan and Jason Smith, Blake Spanel, Casey and Lauren Noreika, Spencer and Claudia Beller, and 10 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Karl, and two brothers, Harry and Karl. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 205 Main St., Nicholson. Interment will take place in the Nicholson Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Lena Mae Croasdale passed away peacefully in the arms of her mother on April 28, 2017 at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
She was born on April 1, 2017 and passed away gently into the arms of Jesus 27 days later. Lena touched so many lives and was deeply loved by many. Her life was a brief gift to us, but she will live on in our hearts forever. Our precious little angel will not be forgotten. Lena enjoyed being held by her family, backrubs from Papa, baths and cartoons. She was very strong and a fighter. Lena Mae is the daughter of Kelly Lynn Croasdale and Ryan Noble of Springville, Pa. Lena is survived by her brother, Jayden Noble and sister, Kandice Noble; her maternal grandparents, Verne and Kim Croasdale of Nicholson; paternal grandparents, Jeff and Cindy Noble of Springville; great grandparents, Jerry and Shirley Croasdale of Nicholson and Dolores Sparks of New Milford; aunts and uncles, Laura and Keith Beach of Susquehanna, Shelby Deats of Springville, Dakota Croasdale of Nicholson, Leonna and Chad Slody of Springville, Andrea and Cassie Noble of Springville; and countless other family members. Lena is preceded in death by her grandmother, Beth Ann Croasdale of New Milford, great-grandparents, Louie and Irene Noble of Springville, and Louie Sparks of New Milford. A Funeral service will be held by the Rev. John Shaffer Saturday at noon in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson. Following the service, close family and friends will proceed to the Lynn Cemetery for a private burial. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. Darlene Ann McKennas, age 58, of Tunkhannock died Wednesday evening at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Darlene was born May 31, 1958 in Meshoppen, the daughter of Nancy Crispell McKennas and the late Anthony McKennas. She was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Class of 1976. Also, she was a graduate of the Northeast Institute of Education. She retired from the Commonwealth of PA, working for the State Police headquarters in Harrisburg. The family would like to thank Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Dr. Joseph Drabick, Carol Mallon and team and Hospice of the Sacred Heart of Wilkes Barre. Darlene also is survived by a brother, Anthony James McKennas and wife, Nancy of Laceyville; a nephew Anthony (A.J.) McKennas and wife, Bridgette of Montrose; two nieces, Christine Myers and husband Jared of Covington Twp, and Ariel McKennas and companion David Dudock of Laceyville; and great-nephews, Blake and Reid McKennas of Montrose. At Darlene’s request, there will be no viewing and the funeral services will be private. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852 Dorothy Stephens Richards RN of Tunkhannock, “Starkville”, Pa. died Tuesday at The Gardens at Tunkhannock. Her beloved husband, Joseph Richards, died December 18, 1983. Born in Jan. 18, 1920 in Endicott, NY she is the daughter of the late Winton and Helen Notz Stephens. She was a graduate of Nicholson High School, Class of 1937, and a graduate of the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Dorothy was a Registered Nurse. She was in a movie theater in Washington, D.C. when they stopped the film. Over the loud speaker it was announced Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. She was working at that time in a hospital in Washington, D.C. She remembered during the war lights out at night to prevent any of the enemy bomber pilots from seeing the city. On returning home to Nicholson, she was employed by Marlett Nursing Home and Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock. She was a member of the West Nicholson United Methodist Church and its Loyalty Society. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and William Stephens; and her daughter Yvonne Mayer.She is survived by Yvonne’s son, Chris Mayer and wife Amanda. Also surviving are her stepson Robert F. and wife Diane Richards of Tunkhannock, Pa.; Stepson Joel and wife Linda of Lenexa, Kansas; a stepdaughter, Beryl Jo and husband Robert Clark of Factoryville, Pa.; and her daughter Karen and husband Carlos Salgueiro of New Brunswick, N.J.; and grandchildren Jasmene Nodarse, Nicole Nodarse, Shayla Jones, Robert F. Richards Jr., Holly Richards, Jamie Richards, Bill Clark, Mary Clark, Amy Richards, Kristen Rigdon, Kim Smith, Erin Long, Steve Richards, and Andrea Richards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Nicholson Methodist Church or the Nicholson Fire Company. Robert “Bob” Padula Sr. of Nicholson, Pennsylvania died April 20 at home. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughter, Cathy Cawley (Kevin), of Abington, Pa.; daughter, Joann Ritter (Brian), of Nicholson; and grandchildren, Rachel, Patrick, Joseph, Ethan, Wyatt and Finn; and brother, Dominic. Bob was predeceased by his sons, Angelo and Robert Jr.; along with his siblings, Sally, Samuel, Angelo, Anna, Carmella, Arsenio, Anthony and Philip. Bob was born in Paterson, N.J. and was a veteran who served in the Army. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator who continued his family’s excavating company, Padula and Sons Excavating, when he moved to Pennsylvania. Bob was an honest, fair, hardworking businessman who also took care of his neighbors and community. He served as a member of Wyoming County Democratic Committee for decades; he was Nicholson township supervisor for several years; a faithful parishioner at Saint Patrick’s Church of Nicholson; and drove bus #12 for Lackawanna Trail School District for over 35 years and always volunteered the bus to local sports teams and fans for travel. Bob enjoyed collecting antique machinery and had a prized collection of steam engines. He was a member of the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to help a friend in need. He was most proud of his family and enjoyed having his grandchildren and dogs with him wherever he went. He will be truly missed by his many nieces, nephews and extended family who cherished their time spent at Padula Farm. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. in the St. Patrick Church, 205 Main Street, Nicholson. A viewing will be held Friday, April 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Charles H. Box 342 Nicholson, PA 18446; or to the charity of your choice. Kenneth J. Babiarz, 72, of Nicholson died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife is Katherine Havrilak Babiarz, and they have been married for 32 years. Born in Dalton, son of the late Andrew and Irene Rodney Babiarz, Kenneth was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, and is a member of the Nicholson American Legion Post 953. Before retiring, he was a self-employed truck driver. Kenneth is survived by three daughters, Karen DePietro, Connie Hedrick and Kimberly Woodard; two stepsons, Robert Kerr and wife, Robin; and Eugene Kerr and wife, Michelle; two brothers, Edward and James; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie; and a brother, Robert. A celebration of life will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, by celebrant Flossie Jones with military honors by Nicholson American Legion Post 953. The family will receive friends from 1 until service time. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Edwina Florence Gomez, aged 70, passed away peacefully at her home on April 10, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Edwina was born on March 18, 1947, in Camden, New Jersey and raised by her father, Edwin E. Liming. On Jan. 20, 1968, Edwina married Edward J. Gomez and enjoyed 49 years of marriage. After spending brief periods in Illinois and Philadelphia, they purchased their farm in Nicholson to raise their three boys. Edwina enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds but her absolute passion was caring for her horses. Through out her life, Edwina owned and cared for numerous horses, always ensuring that they had safe comfortable homes to live out their days. Edwina is survived by her husband; sons, Richard, Stephen and Phillip; sister-in-law, Kris; grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and a number of close friends and family. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Edwina during her final days with a special thanks to “Sonny” and “Mel” who cared for her as a sister. Felicia Ann Blazewicz Kinney, 98, of Hop Bottom, died peacefully on April 2, 2017 at home with her loving daughter, Helen, and her grandson, Bob, by her side. Born July 16, 1918, in Adams, Massachusetts, she is the daughter of the late Alexander Blazewicz and Anna Chrupsala Blazewicz. Felicia lived in Adams until the age of 16. Her family moved to Scranton, Pa., so her father could work in the coal mines. The day after they arrived in Scranton, the mines closed. They stayed with relatives in Scranton for a few months until the family moved to a farm in Montrose, Pa. Felicia met Robert, her husband, at the Montrose Hanger Factory, where she worked till she got married. Robert and Felicia lived in Dimock for three years, then in 1943 they moved onto the Kinney family farm where she spent the next 70 years. Five years ago she moved in with her daughter, Helen. Felicia was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church, Nicholson, Pa. She loved family gatherings, traveling to see her brother, Ed, and her sister, Ann, and attending Pennay’s auctions in Hop Bottom. Felicia also liked going out to eat with Shirley, Romaine, Diane, Ellen and Helen for lunch. She loved scratch-off tickets and would often win. She also liked sneaking food to her dogs. Until five years ago, she loved to fish, bowl, mow and weed whack the lawn – of which people would often tease that she could do their lawns. Felicia was a feisty and independent woman loved by so many in her 98 years. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Linda Lewis, Ellen Krucar, Robin Metcalf and Diane Kivak for their help and support.
