Edward R. Segeske, 79, of Spring Hill, Fla., and formerly of Philadelphia and Nicholson, died Jan. 22 at Bayonet Regional Hospital in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Nina Wilbur Pierson Segeske. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Elwood and Anna Segeske. Before retiring, he worked at the Schmidt Brewing Company, and was an owner/operator of his own business, called Uncle Ed’s Trucking. Edward was a Navy veteran, having served from 1953 to 1956. He was a member of the Nicholson Masonic Lodge 438, the Spring Hill Sheriff Department and the Avalon Association Group. Edward is also survived by a daughter, Joan Schum; two grandchildren, Jim Schum and Shannon Schum; a great-grandson, Landen Schum; a brother, Robert Segeske and wife, Janet; a sister-in-law, Mickey Segeske Meister; a stepdaughter, Robin Kerr and husband, Robert; a stepson, Rollie Pierson and wife, Christine; and three stepgranddaughters.He was also preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Segeske; and a stepgrandson. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, with services by the Rev. Ralph Christianson. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Lathrop Twp. The family will receive friends from 1 until service time. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or to Divita.

Warren B. Holton Jr., 74, of Nicholson died Sunday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton.
His wife is the former Jill Anne Tobin. They would have been married 54 years on June 17. Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Warren B. and Pauline Dutill Holton, he was an organ donation procurement technician before retiring. He also developed and started multiple organ donation banks. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1959 to 1963. Warren was past master of Factoryville Masonic Lodge 341, a member of Nicholson Lodge 438 and a member of the Masonic Temple. He loved outdoor activities, especially hunting. Warren is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Kiefer and husband, Jim; and Cynthia Martindale and husband, Jim; a sister, Leone Holton; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, with Masonic services at 8 p.m. by Nicholson Lodge 438. Bruce Allen Oakley Jr., 28, of Nicholson, died Sunday from injuries sustained in a car accident on Route 11 in Nicholson.
Born Sept. 2, 1986, in Tunkhannock, son of Barbara Noble Reploeg and stepson of Kurt Reploeg of Nicholson, he was a graduate of Mountain View High School and served in the Army from 2004 to 2010. Also surviving are three sisters, Jennifer Oakley, Crystal Miller and Rebecca Oakley; a brother, Sgt. Richard Oakley; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Marjorie Inderlied, 93, of Nicholson died Monday at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock.
Born in Nicholson, daughter of the late Frank and Vera Oakley Richmond Packer and a stepdaughter of the late Ralph Packer, she was employed by the Bendix Corp. in South Montrose for 33 years. She was a member of the Hop Bottom United Methodist Church, Nicholson Senior Citizens, Wyoming County Secret Pals and Bendix Retirees. Marge is survived by a sister, Ida Mae Strickland and husband, Bill; a niece, Claudia Lopatofsky and husband, Bill; two nephews, Bradley Strickland and wife, Penny; and William Strickland and wife, Michele; eight great-nieces and nephews and five great-great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of Marge’s friends and neighbors for their help and kindness in making her life enjoyable. Services will be private, as per Marge’s wishes, by Pastor Richard Spering of the Hop Bottom United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in the Nicholson Cemetery. McCarty, 59, of Nicholson, Pa., passed away May 16 surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Scranton, Pa., on Jan. 29, 1956, he graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School in 1973. Craig was married to the love of his life, Cindy McCarty. They would have celebrated their seventh anniversary on June 30. As a master mechanic, he earned his living alongside longtime friend, Frank Karp, however Craig’s expertise was not bound to a single discipline. He frequently utilized his automotive, welding and carpentry talents to benefit the lives of his friends and loved ones. He even built his own house. In his youth, Craig traveled the country on his motorcycle with his good buddy, Ernie Rydall, and later became a certified skydiver. He enjoyed spending his time playing and listening to music, traveling with his wife, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees, spending time with his children and grandchildren and providing a sanctuary for any animal in need, including a fox. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Samuel McCarty and girlfriend, Desiree; daughter, Casey Edwards and husband, Christopher; daughter, Viki Soloski; stepdaughter, Amanda Haygood and husband, Ian; stepdaughter, Hillary Bird; stepson, Cody Bird; grandchildren, Holden, Carter, Alana, Angel, Adam and James; sister, Donna Lane and husband, Andy; brother, Glenn McCarty and wife, Chris; brother, Martin McCarty and wife, Mauri; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Barbara Harvey; and his beloved friend, Noah. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. Ronald Barankovich, age 72, of Hop Bottom, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 12 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Fallon Barankovich. Ronald was a teacher at Mountain View High School for 33 years, where he taught woodworking and was a cross country coach. He also taught adult woodworking classes and was an instructor for hunter safety courses. He was a graduate of Edison High School in New Jersey and Newark State College. Ronald served in the 109th division of the Army Reserves for 23 years. He also was a member of the Hop Bottom Borough Council for 35 years and an officer of the Grace Lutheran Church. Ronald was an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons 15th Masonic District, Harford Lodge #445, serving twice as Worshipful Master. Ron was known for helping anyone who was in need, working around the home and walking his dog, “Sammy.” Ron is also survived by his two sons, Ronald Barankovich and wife, Jeanne; and John Barankovich and companion, Sharon Choplosky; three daughters, Stephanie Rennie and husband, Jim; Melissa Hardy and husband, Chad; and Elizabeth Holden and husband, Patrick; two sisters, Sondra Magaw and Susan McClaud; a brother, Roy Barankovich; seven grandchildren, William Hardy, Alex and Mikenzie Barankovich, Rylee and Dominic Hardy, and Kody and Shelby Rennie; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen Barankovich and Rose Barankovich Kakuk; and a stepson, Richard Stoddard. Daniel F. Cobb, 53, of Nicholson, died Tuesday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton.
Born July 14, 1961, son of Charles Cobb Sr. of Nicholson and the late Hazel White Cobb, he was a welder by trade and had been employed at Pendlebury & Sons, N.C. Stauffer and Wells Cargo. Surviving are three brothers, Ronald, Charles Jr. and Clayton; two sisters, Susan Dickinson and Florence Jenkins; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, by the Rev. John Shaffer of the Nicholson United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in the Nicholson Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. May 17, 2015 Stephen Kostick, 87, died Friday at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C., where he was a resident.
Born Sept. 21, 1927, in Lathrop Twp., Susquehanna County, son of the late Andrew and Anna Hunjo Kostick, Stephen served in the Army during World War II, and then enlisted in the Air Force and served in Vietnam. He left the military after 20 years of service. Stephen is survived by two brothers, five sisters and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday from the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the St. Patrick’s Church, Nicholson, celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Petro. Interment will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Starkville. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. |
