Benjamin Price Carter lost his battle with PTSD and a traumatic brain injury on April 1, 2025. He was a true warrior to the end.

As a decorated Naval Combat Veteran, his actions saved the lives of many soldiers and those of us at home. During his eight years of naval service, he was deployed in Iraq twice, was a member of the Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 and proud to be selected for Riverine Squadron 1, the first Riverine Squadron since Vietnam. He was the first to receive the official Game Warden of Vietnam award for his heroic actions in Iraq during his second deployment. Ben graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School and George Mason University and was honored to be a third-degree Mason.

Ben was a loving, caring person with a great sense of humor and always quick with a one-liner. Protecting people was his great strength, and he was always ready to help a fellow friend or veteran in need. From a young age, Ben loved being outside and working the land in almost any capacity.

His love for this country will never be forgotten. July 4 was his favorite holiday, and America held a special place in his heart. His hard work on the farm and Camp Freedom will not be forgotten. He loved music, playing the drums, and swimming.

Ben is survived by his three children Leighton, Levi, and Colton who held a special place in his heart and he loved deeply; the love of his life, Erin Malloy; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Jim Cocolin; his father, Richard Carter; two brothers, Adam (wife Rachel) and Joshua Carter; and niece and nephew, Luke and Emma.

Ben not only helped so many people along the way but was also helped by many. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the many people who have been by Ben’s side and continuously believed in him, including his many friends, Veterans Court, Camp Freedom and Camp Hope.

There will be a celebration of life at Camp Freedom on June 7 from 1 to 4 PM. Camp Freedom is located at 284 Number 7 Rd, Carbondale, PA 18407.  Please think of some of Ben’s 1 liners and stories to share.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his honor to Camp Freedom at https://campfreedompa.org/donate/.

It is with heavy hearts, but also a sense of peace, that we announce the passing of Robert William Leventhall, who died peacefully at home on April 26, 2025, at the age of 87. Bill was born in Carbondale, PA, in 1937 to the late William Thomas Leventhall and Evelyn Hunter Leventhall. He married Sally Nichols on December 9,1961, and was a devoted father to five children.

After graduating from high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea. He later settled in Windsor, NY, as a lab technician and chemist for Crowley’s. In 1971, he and Sally relocated with his youngest children to the Nichols homestead on Lake Sheridan, PA. and took a position with Procter & Gamble in Mehoopany. He was a dedicated family man whose life’s purpose was enjoying time with family. His loved ones will remember him as the strongest man they ever knew. He was a man of pride, extreme intelligence, and fortitude. Bill lived his life as a man of great character and possessed positive attributes that will be passed onto future generations. He loved unconditionally and was never bothered by trivial matters. A filled bird feeder was likely to be found on his porch, as he and Sally cherished watching the little creatures around them. Bill was an avid reader, and a whiz at crossword puzzles. If you ever talked with Bill, whether you knew him for five minutes or fifty years, you felt like the most important person in the room. His kindness, attention, and sincerity made every conversation special.

Robert George Brecht, 86, a lifelong resident of Nicholson, PA passed away peacefully at home March 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Eugene and Drucilla Brecht.

Following his naval service, Bob joined the Army National Guard where he dedicated his life to service for 30 years retiring at the rank of Sergeant. Prior to his retirement, Bob was employed at PennDOT as a road supervisor, a career in which he made many lasting friendships.

Bob was an avid enthusiast of both golf and bowling. He often boasted about his hole-in-one at Lakeland Golf Course and his championship in the Gin’s Golf League. Bob was one of the original members of The Last Chance Rod and Gun Club in Laquin, Pa., where he and lifelong friends spent countless weekends and hunting seasons. When his family pressed him about not taking his gun to camp his response was “Someone has to stir the soup.” He also enjoyed time spent with his Army brothers and was responsible for organizing the annual snow turtle hunt.

His heart was full of pride and joy as he supported his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their sporting events. He was honored to stand as best man for his eldest grandson Jim Colvin (Holly). His pride and love for his family was always evident, and his door was always open to all who wanted to visit. He cherished the friendship of his long-time neighbors and friends.

Bob’s true love was his wife of 60 years, Carol. Together they shared many adventures including cruising in the Caribbean and Alaska.
