Donna Gabert, 71, of Hop Bottom, died Wednesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband, Wally, died in 2017.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Genevieve Drisbaugh Drake. Donna is survived by two sisters, Linda Micklo and Karol Kudulsky; one brother, Doug Drake; a nephew, Frank Micklo; and a niece, Jennifer Beven. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson.

William E. Loch, 85, of Springville, died Monday at Endless Mountain
Health Systems in Montrose. His wife is Lila Springer Loch and they have been married for 60 years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Emma Racibor Loch. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom and was retired from Procter and Gamble. He also was a member of the Springville Volunteer Fire Company and enjoyed hunting and fishing. William is also survived by a son, Alan and wife, Julie; two grandchildren, Brandon and Emma Loch; and a nephew, Randy and wife, Jamie. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Willard. There will be a viewing Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, followed by graveside service at Tyler Hill Cemetery in Springville. Donations may be sent to the Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom or the Springville Volunteer Fire Company.  Paul Begin, 94, of Nicholson died Monday at Endless Mountains Health Systems in Montrose.
His wife, Pauline Smarkusky Begin, passed away in 2020. Born in Jessup, he is the son of the late Wasil and Mary Leshanych Begin. He was a member of the Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson and was a retired dairy farmer. Paul is survived by a daughter, Beverly Begin and her husband Robert Conrad; two granddaughters, Dana and Denise Hardisky; two grandsons, Michael and Andrew Hardisky; two stepsons, Shane Conrad and Austin Conrad and wife Kasi; one great grandson, Michael Daniel Hardisky; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Petrini; and five brothers, John, Mike, Nick, Basil, and Steve. A blessing service celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 1:00pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. The family will receive friends from Noon until service time. Inurnment will be in Saint Michael's Cemetery in Starkville.  JoAnn Morden, 61, of Nicholson passed away October 5th, 2022 at Allied services in Scranton PA. Born in Shickshinny on December 28, 1960; the daughter of the late Harold Sr. and Doris Robbins Whitmire.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church in Nicholson for many years. She helped with the food pantry serving many families in need. She loved her annual trips to Knoebels with family, spending time with her granddaughter, Quinn. Surviving is her husband of 40 years, Steve (homer) Morden; son, Steve Morden and his wife Kim of Hummelstown; brothers, Carl and wife Vicky, Shawn, Terry and Harold. Sisters, Diane, Martha, Tina and Tracy. Granddaughter, Quinn Morden. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.  Joseph Kavka, age 74, passed on October 10, 2022 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, PA after suffering a stroke.
As an avid outdoorsman he could be found every fall napping in a deer stand with at least one of his children. He spent his kids' childhoods as cub scout leader for his sons and a 4H archery instructor and biddy basketball coach for his daughter. Joe was a graduate of Mountain View, class of 1966, and attended Penn State University for forestry. He was employed as a machinist at Doyle and Roth Manufacturing in Simpson for over 40 years. Joe and his wife Deb happily pestered each other for the past 46 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; Frank and Anna Kavka, sisters; Mary Rizzo, Ann Medric, and Joan Steinhauer, and infant daughter, Jill. He is survived by wife Deb (Clapper) Kavka, sons; Luke Kavka of Aurora, Co, Adam (Kara) Kavka of Retta, PA, and daughter Beth Kavka of Las Vegas, NV. Also surviving are grandsons Miles and Reece Kavka of Retta, PA. Other surviving family members include brothers; Frank (Jean) Kavka of Shoemakersville, PA and Michael Kavka of West Goshen, PA, along with many nieces and nephews. If you knew the man, you'd know he didn't want to be fussed over. So per his wishes, on Monday, October 17th, calling hours will be from 3pm to 5pm with a blessing service to follow held at the Charles Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street Nicholson, PA.  Frank G. Remick, 83, of Nicholson passed away Monday, October 10 at Allied Hospice.
Born September 14, 1939, Frank was the son of the late Frank and Helen Victor Remick of Dickson City. He graduated from Johnson School in 1957. Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Kalinauskis Remick, and their six children: Lee Remick and Amy Hawk, Susan L. Pringle, Brian and Betty Remick, Jennifer and Ted Zech, Amber and Jake Martin, and Carleen and Wes Sawkulich; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard and Rosemary Remick. Frank was a loving, devoted family man, whose steadfastness, intelligence, advice, and sense of humor will be missed beyond words. There will be a brief viewing at the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson starting at 11am on Friday, October 14 followed by a mass at 12pm at St. Patrick Church, Nicholson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wyoming County Historical Society, Tunkhannock.  James Richard Ritz, 63, of Hop Bottom passed away Saturday, October 8 at his home.
He is preceded in death by his father, Julius; mother, Mary; son, James; and sister, Beverly. James is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Donna Oakley Ritz. James is also survived by his 3 children; son, Samuel (Greta) Ritz; daughter, Connie (Bud) Hunt, and daughter, Lisa Ritz; step children Michael (Krista), Isaac (Amy), Becky (Mark), Marci (Scott) and France; adopted daughter Eliza Himko and adopted son Donovan Ritz; 4 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brothers Ron (Joyce) Ritz, Robert (Linda) Ritz, Rick Ritz, Michael Ritz, and Joey Ritz; sister Tina (Robert) Bullock, all in Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. James loved hunting, fishing, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved country music, westerns, chocolate, and a nice cold beer. He believed one day he would find Bigfoot. He loved a good joke and to play around with all his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by so many. Funeral services are private with interment in the Squier's Cemetery, Hop Bottom.  Frank Crea, 92, of Kingsley passed away Saturday at home with his family by his side. His wife is the former Melsenia Tiffany and they have been married for 64 years.
Born in Rush, PA he is the son of the late John and Bessie Mayhood Crea. Prior to retiring he served as Postmaster of the Kingsley Post Office for 30 years. He was a member of the St. Patrick Church in Nicholson and was an Army veteran of the Korean War serving in Okinawa, Japan. He was also a member of the Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488. He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, gardening, and reading the newspaper. Frank is also survived by a daughter, CherylAnn Kraska; a son, Frank M. Crea; a brother, Robert Crea; a sister, Betty Oruska; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers; Paul, Joseph, and Wayne; and two sisters; Mary and Pauline. A mass of christian burial celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held Wednesday at 11am in the St. Patrick Church in Nicholson. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Nicholson. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. JoAnn Bartell Squier, of Nicholson, PA, passed away on August 16, 2022 at Abington Manor in Clark Summit, PA with family by her side following an illness. Her husband, Richard Squier, passed away in 2017. She and Richard were married for 45 years.
Born in Newark, NJ, she is the daughter of the late Katherine Mills Bartell and Joseph Bartell. She married Richard in 1972, moved to Nicholson and became an active community volunteer in the Nicholson local library, Girl Scouts, and helped coach girls softball. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and was an avid supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, spinning wool, baking, playing card and doing puzzles. She is survived by her two children, Richard Squier, Jr of Nicholson and Karen Squier of Memphis Tennessee. She is also survived by her sisters Judy (Charlie) Curtin (Waverly, PA), Rena Shull (Kansas City, MO), Maureen (Bill) Harvey (Pipersville, PA) and Peggy (PJ) Mc Laine (Dunmore, PA) as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister Ginny Bartell Graham and brother in law, Donald Shull. There will be no public services per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the American Red Cross or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.  Katherine Babiarz, age 80, of Nicholson passed away Monday August 8 at Allied Skilled Nursing in Scranton. Her husband Kenneth passed away in 2017.
Born in Binghamton, NY she is the daughter of the late Peter Havrilak and Hilda Wescott Noble. She attended the West Nicholson United Methodist Church and was an avid seamstress, loved baking cakes, crafts, and golf. She is survived by two sons, Robert Kerr, wife Robin; and Eugene Kerr, wife Michelle; sisters Barbara Beebe, husband Albert; Sharon Dwyer, husband Joseph; and brothers Harold Noble, wife Pat; Frank Noble, wife Karen; grandchildren Christina Kerr, Mara Ketcham and husband Bryan, and Shelby Kerr; step children Connie Hedrick, husband Norman; Karen DePietro and Kim Babiarz; great grandchildren Brayden, Maya, Colton, Taylor, Faith, Autumn, Kelsey, Charles, Zabrina, William, Zaitie Burgin and Jocelyn Schwarztrauber. Katherine is predeceased by a brother, Irving Havrilak; and a grandson, Robert Kerr. A Graveside memorial service for family and friends will be held Friday August 12 at 5pm in the Union Cemetery in Lathrop Township.
