Alberta Mroz age 95 of Nicholson died Friday October 1, at her home. Her husband Chester passed away in 1994. Born in Scranton she is the daughter of the late Albert and Helen Chiappini. She was a member of Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson and owned and operated a diner before retiring. She is survived by a son Chester and two daughters Nancy Schultz Murphy and Sandra Mulgrew. Ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Albert and a daughter Sharon and 2 brothers and a sister.
A mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held Wednesday October 6 at 10:00 AM in Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson. Interment will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery in Nicholson. Viewing will be Tuesday 3-5 PM in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home 91 State Street, Nicholson.

Dorothy B. Franko, 94, of Hop Bottom died Thursday September 30, 2021.
Her husband Joseph J. Franko passed away in 1994. Born in Scranton, August 13, 1927 she is the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Mikucki Janicki. Se was employed and retired as a seamstress in the garment industry. She was a member of ILGWU and VFW auxiliary Elk Mountain Post 8488. Dorothy is survived by a grandson, Matthew Cokelyand companion Tara Williams of Springville. She was preceded in death by a beloved son, Joseph “Butchie”; a loving daughter, Dorothy Ann “Dee”; five brothers, Walter, Roman, Joseph, Chester, and Stanley; and a sister Charlotte Malinski. A blessing service will be held Friday, October 8 at 10:00am in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson celebrated by Rev. ArbogasteSatoun of St. Patrick Church of Nicholson. Interment will be held in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Nicholson. Joseph M. Walusch Jr., 56, of Kingston, died Tuesday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born in Norwich, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Evelyn Hendry Walusch. He is survived by a brother, Jeffery; uncle, John; and aunt, Nellie Hendry. A blessing service by the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held in the Nicholson Cemetery. Paul E. Rahn, 77, passed away on September 21, 2021 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA. He was the beloved husband of Trudy (Therrien) Rahn who passed away in 2016. Paul was born in Torrington, CT to Edmund and Millie Rahn.
Paul moved to Fleetville, PA in 2003 where he continued his long career as an engineer. He had several joys in his life such as bird watching and Star Wars, but family was the most important to him. Paul had three daughters who preceded him in death: Jennifer Rahn, Tracy Hass, and Kelly Bannister. Paul is survived by his four siblings: Marjorie King, Ruth Ness, Tekla Walsh, and Eric Rahn. Friends and family are holding a private memorial to celebrate his life on October 30, 2021. Wayne Willard Novitch, 71, of Nicholson, passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2021, at Allied Skilled Nursing facility in Scranton.
Wayne was born in Scranton to the late Willard Novitch and Hildegarde Wyppich Novitch. He graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School in Factoryville; received his associate degree at Keystone Jr. College in Factoryville; and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Rider University, Lawrenceville, N.J., in 1971. Wayne worked at his father’s International Harvester dealership in Nicholson before opening his accounting practice in Scranton; first with H&R Block, then with Jackson Hewitt. He is a lifetime member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Volunteer Firemen’s Federation where he served as president. He served as president of Northeast Fire Chiefs Association and was a member of the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 50 years, where he held several leadership positions including treasurer. He was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hop Bottom. Wayne was a devoted son to his parents and a caring big brother. He is survived by his sisters, Shirley Howson of Denver, Colo., and Carol Blatt of Dunkirk, Md.; and his brother, Ray Novitch of Purcellville, Va. He was a proud uncle to Sharon Blatt Medeiros of Taunton, Mass.; Greg Blatt of Ellicott City, Md.; Christopher Novitch of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Stephen Novitch of Campobello, S.C.; and great-uncle to Luke Medeiros of Taunton, and Savannah Novitch of Honolulu. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 14, 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m. Both services will be held at Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson Ann Marie ‘Penny’ Marcy, 74, of New Milford, passed away peacefully August 21, 2021, with family by her side.
She was born April 27, 1947, in Binghamton, NY. She was the eldest daughter of William and Angelina (Ciancio) Fisk. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother & great-grandmother. She enjoyed many years alongside her family running The Shutters and The Summit. She and James have owned and operated Marcy Quarries for 45 years. She also spent thirteen years working at Walmart where she met many special friends. She enjoyed her retirement years with James meeting wonderful lifetime friends through playing cards and casino trips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, William J. Marcy (his wife Lisa survives) and Richard A. Marcy. Surviving is her husband James E. Marcy Jr., to whom she was married for 44 years, and their son James E. (Gayle) Marcy III. Also surviving are two sisters, Denice (Patrick, deceased) Gaetani and Roxanne (Mark) Hogan; her grandchildren, William Hoover, Brittany (Zack) Rivenbark, Kellen Tangora, Melanie ‘Munchkin” Marcy, Tyler Marcy & William ‘Buddy’ Marcy; three great-grandchildren, Silvio Hoover, Mason Orfetel and Evelyn Rivenbark; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her Godmother, Anna Rusnak. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00am in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson with services by Rev. George Gnade. Beloved family man and Veteran Basil Moots of Hop Bottom, PA passed away peacefully on August 11, 2021 at the age of 84 after a courageous fight with multiple illnesses.
Basil was blessed with a long and fulfilling life married to his beautiful wife Patricia (nee Stawowy) for over 60 years. He is survived by Patricia and their 6 children; Joline Davidson, Laura Miller, Mae Nowalk, Karen Stubbs, Rachel Fernandez, and Christopher Moots. In addition to his children, his legacy extends to 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and two grandchildren. Born and raised in Wyandotte, MI, Basil enlisted in the military and served his country with distinction for 23 years that included two combat tours in Vietnam. After retiring from active duty as a Chief Warrant Officer Three, he continued to serve as a civil servant then at the end of his working career, as a volunteer at Brooke Army Medical Center in support of troops coming home from the War on Terror. Basil lived to serve causes bigger than him and the world is better for it. In his twilight years, he loved the simple pleasures of traveling the world with Patricia, visiting with family and friends, watching old westerns (to the chagrin of Patricia) and bird watching. Those who knew Basil personally loved and respected him for his no-nonsense approach to life and willingness to help when it was needed. A lifelong member of The Knights of Columbus, he was a devout Catholic and went out of his way to volunteer to help those in need. His and Patricia's spiritual leadership laid the foundation for their children's lives. For those in the area that wish to pay their final farewell in person, there will be a viewing on Sunday, 15 August at the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson, PA from 4:00 - 6:00 and a funeral mass on Monday, 16 August at Saint Patrick's, Nicholson, at 10:00. He will be buried with full military honors at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Tuesday, August 17 at 9:00am. John C. Nauroth Sr, 80, of Nicholson died Sunday August 1 at home. His wife of 58 years is Patricia Wilson Nauroth.
Born in Allentown, he is the son of the late Aloysius and Mary Shimsy Nauroth. He was a policeman for 19 years and also a contractor. He served in the Army in military police and also served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Nicholson American Legion Post 953 and attended the Springville Baptist Church. John is also survived by two sons, John C. Jr. (Kelly) and Randy (Lisbet); a daughter, Deborah Garrison; a sister, Eleanor Cressman (Glenn); a brother, Joseph (Sharon), six grandchildren; four great grand children; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday August 9 at 11:00am in the Springville Baptist Church with services by Paster Roger L. Rosenau. Interment will be held in the Nicholson Cemetery. Billy Strickland, 88, of Union Dale, Herrick Twp., died Sunday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. His wife is Ida Mae Packer Strickland and they have been married for 65 years.
Born in Hop Bottom, he was the son of the late Claude and Irene Kinner Strickland. Prior to retiring, he was a maintenance manager for Procter and Gamble. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion Gardner Warner Post 154 in Montrose. He also was a member of the Sandy Creek Sportsman’s Club, Lake Ontario. He was a well-known baseball and softball player and was an all-star shortstop in the Army. He played in many leagues throughout Pennsylvania. He loved hunting, fishing and going to the camp at Lake Ontario with his many friends. Most of all Bill was proud of all that he and Ida accomplished in their lives. They worked hard for everything they had, raised a family that they were proud of but most of all they loved each other and were truly devoted to each other for 65 years. Bill is also survived by a daughter, Claudia Lopatofsky (Bill); two sons, Bradley (Penny) and William (Michele); two sisters, Jean Scott and Gail Decker; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Dave; and two sisters, June Garrison and Betty Henderson. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, by the Rev. Bonnie Resseguie of the Clifford Baptist Church, followed by interment in the Nicholson Cemetery. The family will have calling hours Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Randy Lee Zick, 63, of Hop Bottom, Pa., passed on Friday, July 9, of natural causes.
Born Jan. 6, 1958, in Montrose, Pa., to Richard and Charlotte Zick, he was a graduate of Mountain View High School’s class of ‘76. Randy spent his early years on the family farm in Kingsley before making a successful career as a carpenter and independent contractor. He was highly active in his community, volunteering with the Hop Bottom Hose Company, coaching youth wrestling and little league baseball, as well as his charitable work through the Masonic lodge. Randy is survived by his sons, Jeffrey, of Hop Bottom; and Daniel, of Stephens City, Va.; daughter, Amber Zick, of Staten Island, N.Y.; his father, Richard Zick, of Brooklyn; sisters, Diane Kilmer, of Factoryville; and Jacquie Holgate, of Brooklyn; brothers, Richard, of New Milford; and Larry, of Factoryville; and seven grandchildren whom he adored.
