Charles J. Hubbs, 42, of Nicholson died Monday June 7 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
He is survived by the love of his life, Paula Hubbs; daughters, Lexi Hubbs, Kaci Hubbs, and Brinley Hubbs; a step daughter, Sophia Trusky; two sisters, Tina Hubbs and Tammy Snyder; father, Charles Hubbs; stepmother, Christina Hubbs, stepsister, Michelle Ruby; stepbrother, Michael Schuback; brother from another mother, Brian McElroy; and nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Clark Hubbs; maternal and paternal grandparents. Charles was a hardworking man who loved his job as a truck driver at Erie Materials. He was a great family man and will always be remembered for his sense of humor and loving personality. A memorial service by Pastor Terry Drost of the Peckville Assembly of God will be Monday June 14 at 7pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Ralph Sherwood, 95, of Nicholson, passed away Wednesday at home. His wife, Josephine, died in 2003.
Born March 22, 1926 he is the son of the late Walter and Hazel Dixon Sherwood. Prior to retiring he worked in the maintenance department of Lackawanna Trail High School. He is survived by a son, Douglas Sherwood; two granddaughters, Michelle and Ella Sherwood; ten great grandchildren, Ashley, Bridget, Christian, Hailli, Cody, Dustin, Devyn, Dante, Donovan, and Destiny; two great great grandchildren, Charlie Mae and Naomi Grace. He was predeceased by two sons, Michael and Dale; two grandchildren, Douglas Jr. and Megan Mitchell; and two brothers, Raymond and Howard. Burial will be held in the Deckertown Cemetery at the convenience of the family. ![]() Joseph P. Woolsey, 96, of Nicholson passed away May 21, 2021. He was preceded in in death by the love of his life, Grace Miriam Forscht Woolsey, on April 5, 2019 and is the son of the late Charles and Eleanor Phillips Woolsey. Joe was a World War II veteran having served in the Army during the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart. He graduated from Penn State and received his Masters from the University of Scranton. Mr. Woolsey, as known by his students, taught physics and biology at Nicholson High School / Lackawanna Trail. He always had a song to share, a performer at heart! Joe belonged to numerous organizations; the Barber Shoppers, choirs, minstrel, American Legion / VFW, Nicholson Fire Company, Boy Scouts, Nicholson Sportsmen Club to name a few. He was very proud of being named Grand Marshall of the Nicholson Centennial. He loved making and eating Welsh Cookies, for charity. It was always his honor to give the Memorial Day address and to serve as Honor Guard for many veterans. Joe is survived by a son, Larry R. Woolsey and wife, Christine; a daughter, Carol Woolsey Potochnick, widow of John; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. His brothers, Edward and John, also preceded him in death. A combined memorial service for Joe and his beloved wife, Mim, will be held at a later date. Dennis Wayne Michael Wisniewski II, (Heavy), age 39, of Nicholson died Thursday May 6, 2021 at home.
Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado he is the son of Joanne Wisniewski; brother to Melissa Wisniewski and Christopher Herman; father to Tori Wisniewski, Laila Wisniewski, Ty Edwards, and Lexus Burgess; grandfather to Damyon Wilbur Jr; uncle to Myja, Lyric, and Rhythm; and best friend for life of Christina Birchard. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Wisniewski, and stepfather, Steven R. Herman. Dennis loved nature and being outdoors. He loved working with wood and walking in the woods and the creek with his girls looking for driftwood or something from nature to decorate with or use in his creations. He was an artist; he loved to etch glass and loved to draw. He also wrote many poems over the years. He would hunt and fish when he could. His favorite color was blue and anything tie dyed. His favorite car was a Mustang. Dennis had a big heart and was kind to everyone. He was always there to lend a hand to a friend in need. He leaves behind many family and friends that will truly miss him. You are with God now, Rest in Peace. A memorial celebration of Dennis’s life will be held at a later date. Frank V. Carpenetti Jr., 83, of Nicholson, died April 23 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife, Marilyn Ross Carpenetti, died in 2020.
Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late Frank Sr. and Mary Golomboski Carpenetti. He was a Procter and Gamble retiree and United States Army veteran. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, archery and canning. He enjoyed cowboy and pioneer movies and comedies. He will be missed by family and friends. Frank is survived by a daughter, Denise Caesar and husband, John; three sisters, Louise Schab, Evelyn Doria and Leona VanWert; two brothers, Eddie and Charles Carpenetti; two grandchildren, Michael and Brandon Caesar; and two great-grandchildren, Lori and Josiah Caesar. His wife, Rose Jones Raub, passed away in 2012.
Born in Lenox Twp., he is the son of the late Sylvenus and Ruth Gumaer Raub. He was a member of the Acre Lake Independent Baptist Church and was a Proctor and Gamble retiree. Boyd is survived by four sons, Mark, Timothy (Laurel), Thomas and Micah (Jennifer); a daughter, Ellen Robbins; three brothers, John, Louis and Phil; two sisters, Beverly Raker and Ann Lippolis; and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, David. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Acre Lake Independent Baptist Church with services by Pastor Sherman L. Skeens. Interment will be held in the Tower Cemetery, West Lenox. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Her husband of 19 years is Thomas Kilmer. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Kenneth Fowler and Grace Rozelle Weber. Jean graduated from the Montrose Area High School and prior to retiring performed clerical duties for various auto dealerships. Jean also attended the Peckville Assembly of God Church. Jean is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer Kerr Murphy and Taylor Kilmer; two sons, Nicholas Washburn and Joseph Monteforte; a stepdaughter, Ashley Kilmer; a stepson, Myles Kilmer; two sisters, Eleanor Johnson and Marie Santarelli; a brother, Thomas Gallagher; nine grandchildren, Callan, Kennady, Olivia, Abel, Braeden, Lainey, Colton, Payton, and Cameron; and her closest friends, Lori, Debbie, and Jacki. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Fowler. There will be a viewing from 5-7pm Tuesday, April 6, in the Charles H. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of Teresa Wademan and the late Donald Cummings. She is a 2012 graduate of Mountain View High School and was employed at Crowd Cow in Dunmore. Melody is also survived by her fiancee, Ryan Smits; her maternal grandparents, Andrew and Shirley Novajosky; uncles Eddie and Rick Wademan; and her extended family in Pennsylvania and New York. She was predeceased by an aunt Yavonne Lysak and cousin Clyde Hutchins III. A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date. Theodore Oscar Zech, age 86, of Nicholson passed away Sunday, February 28 at home. His wife, Ruth Delores Seeley Zech, passed away in 2003.
Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late John and Florence Pegg Zech. Prior to retiring he was employed as a forklift driver at RCA in Dunmore. He was an Air Force veteran and served in Korea and Saudi Arabia. He also was an avid hunter and loved his dogs Buddy and Holly. Ted is survived by a son, Theodore Zech Jr. (Jennifer); four daughters, LuAnn Rogers (Duane), Tamela Kelley (Dale), Jodi Zech, and Janice Stankiewicz (Jeff); son in law Robert Sturdevant; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Nadine Sturdevant; and four grandsons, Brian, Bradley, and Ryan Sturdevant and Lucas Mitchell; a sister, Edith; and a brother, John. There will be a graveside funeral service with military honors Saturday, March 27th at 11:00am in the Nicholson Cemetery. A graveside service will be held in the Nicholson Cemetery a later date. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to True Friends Animal Welfare Center, 16332 SR 706, Montrose, PA 18801 Thomas Leslie Remington of Lakeside, Lathrop Township, died unexpectedly Monday, February 22, 2021 at the age of 70. Tom was born in 1950 in Williamsport, PA, the son of the late Frank and Lillian Schultz Remington. He graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1968.
Tom joined the United States Marine Corps in 1972 and was stationed in Okinawa and Thailand during the Vietnam era. He married Elaine Forba of Tunkhannock in 1973. Tom and Elaine spent the remainder of his six years of service in Quantico, VA and Camp Lejeune, N.C. where their daughter, Jennifer Leslie Remington was born in 1976. Tom graduated from Keystone Junior College with a degree in accounting. He retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot in 2008. He was a longtime member of Sons of American Legion, Honor Guard, and Gardner Warner Post #154 in Montrose, PA. He especially enjoyed restoring an antique 1968 pick up. Tom is survived by his wife, Elaine; sister, Marcia Belles, Spartanburg, SC; brother, Fred Remington of Tunkhannock, PA; son in law, Mason Taube; granddaughters, Linda and Katie Taube, Hockessin, DE; and several nieces and nephews. Tom is predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer Remington Taube. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. |
