Richard “Ricky” Felton, a stonemason and lifelong resident of Nicholson, lost his battle on September 19, 2020 at the age of 57 at home surrounded by his family.
His wife is Peg Felton, the love of his life, who he married on July 10, 1993. Born in Scranton on March 1, 1963, he is the son of Bonnie Felton Appleman and the late Thomas Appleman Sr. He worked as a stonemason for most of his life and also worked in refrigeration with his close friend James Pennachio. Ricky loved spending time with his family, taking country rides with his wife, playing horseshoes, and visiting with his friend Tim and many others. He helped raise two grandchildren, Lexus and Little Ricky. Ricky is also survived by his children, Mike, Renee, Alicia, Tommy, Tammy, Todd, and Tessa; his brothers, Tommy Appleman Jr, Guy Potter IV, and Robert Potter; 18 grandchildren and one on the way; four nieces, 2 great nephews, and 1 great niece. He was predeceased by his grandparents and his childhood lifelong friend, Billy Ross. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Angela Francisca Perez, 79, of Nicholson, died Friday at home. Her husband, Dr. Santiago Perez Jr., died in 2018.
Born June 7, 1941 in Ciales, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Jose E. and Maria Esther Lamoso Nieves. She was a member of Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1958 with a B.A. She was the office manager for her husband’s medical practice for 12 years in Puerto Rico and 27 years in New Jersey. Her wisdom, kindness and belief in God through the Roman Catholic Church teachings influenced beautifully innumerable lives. Angela is survived by two sons, Santiago J. Perez and Albert I. Perez; and a daughter, Maria Del Pilar Perez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church, celebrated by the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun. Charles (Charlie) Ronald Cobb Sr., a lifelong resident of Nicholson, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
Charlie was born Feb 7, 1933 in Nicholson and was the son of the late Holly and Florence Irene Lord Cobb. He was a graduate of Nicholson High School and worked at Lackawanna Trail High School as a custodian for 43 years and 35 years at the Nicholson Post Office. Charlie was also a lifelong member of the Nicholson United Methodist Church. Many remember Charlie as someone who brought a positive attitude to anything he was doing. He was noted to always having a smile, a hello and a quick wit to bring a smile. You could always count on a good story from Charlie. Fortunately, his mind was sharp all the way to the end of his loving life. Charlie was a gentleman farmer all his life. During the summer you could always find him working outside in his garden or fields. Once he could not get around like he used to, he would be hoeing on his knees and riding his Kubota tracker otherwise known as his wheelchair. He kept his social routine up to the end with his egg sales customers. Charlie is survived by a son Ronald Cobb, St.Johnsbury, VT; daughter Susan Dickinson and husband Rob, Columbus, IN; daughter Florence Jenkins and husband Mark, Dallas, GA; Charlies Cobb, Jr., and wife Irene, Nicholson; son Clayton Cobb, Nicholson; nine grandchildren, 11+great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Hazel White Cobb and son Daniel Cobb. A viewing will be held Monday, September 14th from 4-7pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. State of PA and CDC COVID guidelines will be followed and masks are required. A public graveside service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, September 15th in the Nicholson Cemetery with services by Rev. John Schaffer. Born in Scranton, son of Ruth Manzer Nichols and stepson of Harold Nichols, Nicholson, and son of the late Ernest E. Wilbur, Mark was a graduate of Lackawanna Trail. His faith in God and longing to travel took him to many states. Out of high school, Mark lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he assumed a ministerial position. He served as a full-time minister in Tennessee and Alabama. Mark was a licensed insurance and real estate agent in Pennsylvania and Arizona. He was also a licensed security officer. His love of family brought him back home to settle. He is also survived by a brother, James and wife, Wanda, Nicholson; a sister, Malynda and husband, Rock Estabrook, Harford; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. At Mark’s request, there will be no services. Richard E. Smith, 62, of Nicholson died Monday, August 17, 2020 at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton.
Born in Meshoppen, he is the son of Olive Hanyon Smith and the late Arvin Smith. He had been employed as a foreman at the Maid Rite meat packing plant. Richard is survived by three sons; Josh, Ryan, and Richard Jr.; three daughters, Diana Latshaw, Katie Fiorentino, and Paige Smith; four brothers, Larry (Eileen) Smith, Ronald (Mary) Smith, William (Connie) Smith, and Robert (Linda) Smith; two sisters, Brenda Warner and Nancy Smith; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Bart. A graveside memorial service will be held a later date. The family would like memorial donations to be made to the Lake Carey Fire Hall in honor of Richard E. Smith. On Saturday, August 15, 2020, Barbara A. Vernovage, loving wife and mother to two children, passed away at age 79.
Barbara was born on May 16, 1941 in Passaic, NJ to Charles and Doris (Smith) Isgar. She received her associate degree from Keystone Junior College in La Plume, PA in 1962. On May 27, 1967, she married Stanley E. Vernovage. They raised two children, Susan and Gregory. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, sister, mother and father. She is survived by her two children, their spouses, and two grandchildren. Private family services will be held at a later date. Diane Patricia Kalinauskis (formerly Duchnik and Oakey) passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020, with her loving family at her side.
Diane was born March 10, 1942, in Peckville, Pennsylvania, and grew up and went to school in Dickson City, Pa. In recent years Diane enjoyed monthly luncheons with her school mates, having many journeys with her dear friend, Kathy Loch, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Diane had many hobbies including crocheting, knitting, reading, and was an excellent seamstress, a talent she learned at an early age and put to good use while owning her own dress shop in Nicholson, Pa. Diane retired in 2012 after a 30-year career as a bookkeeper for Sherwood Chevrolet and Horlacher and Sherwood of Nicholson and Tunkhannock, Pa. She cherished the many friendships she made throughout her career. Diane was an only child and was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Helen (Prorock) Duchnik. William, Diane’s surviving husband of 41 years, kept her active from day one with many adventures and cross-county travels. Diane is also survived by her children: daughter, Deena, of Tunkhannock, Pa.; sons, Matthew and wife, Celine, of Homestead, Fla.; and Jason and wife, Heather, of Clarks Summit, Pa.; grandchildren, Samantha, Jordan, Rebecca, Hunter and Eli; and several nieces and nephews. Sandy “Ma” Paolucci, 59, of Harford, Pa., died Saturday, July 11, in Kingsley, Pa., after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Nov. 24, 1960, to Lois (Hoyt) Ransom and the late Merle Ransom of Nicholson, Pa. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph “Tiger” Paolucci. They would have been married 42 years in August. Also surviving are a son, Joseph “JJ” Paolucci and his companion, Aimee Lu LeFever, of Kingsley, Pa.; her daughter, Amy Paolucci and her husband, John Transue, of New Milford, Pa.; and her grandchildren, whom she referred to as her “Twinners,” Carly Transue and Dylan Paolucci. Sandy is also survived by her brother, Levi (Luann) Ransom; and her sister-in-law, Donna (Donald) Belcher; her Aunt Joyce; and many special nieces and nephews, friends; and her furbabies, Zoey, Lily, Maci and Gunner. Sandy was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Ransom; and her grandparents, Pansy and Joseph Hoyt, and Stella and Dewey Ransom. Sandy worked side by side with her husband on their family farm in Harford, Pa. She was also a very special Nanny to her grandchildren and was able to make many memories with them over the years. She also enjoyed her flower gardens, taking the grandkids to find Monarch caterpillars and spending time with her loved ones. There will be no public services per Sandy’s request. The immediate family will honor her privately. The family would like to thank Traditional Home Health for taking such good care of her in her final days. Margaret Shevchuk, 89, of Hop Bottom, died Sunday at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Her husband, Joseph, died in 2008. Born in Hop Bottom, she is the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Vales Vorozilchak. Margaret is survived by three sons, Joseph Shevchuk, Alan Shevchuk and wife, Rene; and David Shevchuk and wife, Ann Marie; two daughters, Romayne Henry and husband, Gene; and Marlene Kropa and husband, Tom; six grandchildren, Breille Slattery and husband, Scott; Alyshea Henry, Stacy Robinson, Amanda Baker and husband, Kevin; Emily Shevchuk and Michael Shevchuk; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Hughes and Jacoby Slattery. Private services will be held from the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson. Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery in Starkville with committal services by the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun. |
