James P. Reese, 66, of Fleetville, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 16, 2020
Jim loved antiques, classic cars, and spending time with his children and granddaughter. He was a jack of all trades; he worked as a machinist, mechanic, and antique dealer, and he loved collecting and restoring musical instruments. He enjoyed gardening and cooking. James is survived by wife, Maureen (nee Miller); children, Michael (Mary), Dana (George) and Jamie (Kristi); granddaughter, Elaina; siblings, Marjorie Gray and Robert Reese; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Stanard. A celebration of life will be planned for the spring. The time and location are to be determined.

Vivian L. (Ellis) Hathaway, 88, died on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Rest Haven. She was the wife of the late Harvey J. Hathaway.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, PA. A viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Tyler Hill Cemetery in Springville. Born on May 21, 1931 in Springville, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Harriet Ellis. Vivian was a homemaker. Mrs. Hathaway loved cats, plants, flowers and reading the Bible. Vivian leaves two sons, Tyre Sincavish and his wife, Yvonne of West Nicholson and James Sincavish of Manchester; two daughters, Harriet Sincavish of Columbus, OH and Valerie Sincavish and her husband, John of New Oxford; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Clayton; and two sisters, Beulah and Betty. She was preceded in death by three sons, David Sincavish, Donnie Sincavish and Jackie Sincavish; and two brothers, Carl Ellis and Cliff Ellis. Maryanna Dobrosielski, 86, of Meshoppen, died Sunday at home. Her husband is Edward Dobrosielski and they have been married for 37 years.
Born in Rush Twp., Susquehanna County, daughter of the late Stanley and Cecilia Furtas Litwin, she was a member of St. Joachim’s Church in Meshoppen. Before retiring, she was a bookkeeper for Little and Nelson Insurance and had also worked at Bendix Corp. in South Montrose. Maryanna is also survived by a brother, Dr. Frederick Litwin; and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Stanley, Henry, Anthony and Raymond; and two sisters, Josephine Lewandoski and Gertrude Litwin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Joachim’s Church, Meshoppen, celebrated by the Rev. Peter Tang. Interment will be held in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, Meshoppen. Frank Piechocki, 86, of Nicholson passed away peacefully on February 1, 2020 at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility with his family by his side.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Theresa Holland Piechocki who passed in 1994. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this year. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Frank is survived by his sons, Frank Piechocki and wife Elaine of Springfield MO and Greg Piechocki and wife Trisha of New Milford; his daughters Jennifer Melore and husband Vincent of Scranton and Carrie Iacavazzi and husband Peter of Scranton; grandchildren Gage, Emma, Abby, and Carter Piechocki of New Milford, Michael Piechocki and wife, Anne of Springfield, MO, Toni Lynn Piechocki of Spingfield, MO, Jena Ketten and husband Gary of Peckville; great granddaughter Madaliene of Peckville, Peter Iacavazzi III of Scranton, Paul Iacavazzi of Meshoppen, and great grandson Vincenzo of Throop, and nieces and nephews. Born in Scranton on May 4, 1933 he is the son of the late Marion Jerome and Carrie Piechocki. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Nicholson. Prior to his retirement he was a long time truck driver for over thirty five years. He also drove for McCarthy part time. Frank was a proud Republican and a long time member/supporter of the NRA. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed spending time cleaning and polishing his guns and reloading his own ammunition. He also loved horses and attended many horse shows with his daughter throughout the years. His greatest love was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was best known for being very outspoken and telling it like he saw it over a good cup of coffee of course. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of the nurses, doctors, and staff at Allied Skilled Nursing facility who cared for Frank during his stay, and a special thanks to Bob Drake, Jr for keeping Frank engaged in good conversation when being transported to Dialysis. A memorial blessing service will be held Friday, February 7 at 8pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. The family will receive friends from 6pm until service time. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Pauline Begin, 90, of Nicholson, died Wednesday at the Meadow View Senior Living Center in Montrose.
Her husband is Paul Begin and they were married June 9, 1951. Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Komichak Smarkusky, Pauline was a former beautician and a member of the St. Patrick’s Church in Nicholson. The family extends a special thank you to the Meadow View Senior Living Center and Compassionate Care Hospice. She is also survived by a daughter, Beverly Begin and husband, Robert Conrad, Montrose; two brothers, William and Joseph Smarkusky; two grandsons, Michael and Andrew Hardisky; two granddaughters, Dana and Denise Hardisky; two stepgrandsons, Shane and Austin Conrad; a great-grandson, Michael Daniel Hardisky; and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary; and a brother, John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Nicholson, to be celebrated by the Rev. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson Jason Donald Ainey, 41, passed away Thursday, January 16 at home.
He was born October 18, 1978, the son of Jack Ainey and Lynn Rogers Franklin. Jason is a lifelong resident of Nicholson and resided with his best friend, his father Jack. Finally, he is free from suffering. Jason was a member of the last graduating class of the Nicholson Elementary School and completed his education after attending Lackawanna Trail High School. Jason was both a fiercely loyal protector of his family and a kind hearted soul who loved the outdoors. Jason knew every fishing hole from Hoppy’s Knob to Hop Bottom and beyond. He learned to run trap lines at an early age with his buddy Nordahl and loved to hunt deer with his father in his youth. He also was a taxidermist, an archer, and a woodworker; a true woodsman through and through. Jason loved the creek. He truly loved the time he could spend on it with his daughter, Danielle, kayaking together wherever the current would flow. In his words, the day Danielle was born was the greatest day of his life. She was his greatest joy and the best thing that ever happened to him. Jason's new favorite past time was searching for Rae Dunn pottery with his mom. Jason is also survived by his daughter, Danielle Ainey, and her mother, Barbara Choplosky Ainey; his paternal grandfather, Donald Ainey; three sisters, Heather Meyer, Kara Burke, and Rachel Hibson; four brothers, Chris Wilmarth, Jeff Carpenter, Timothy Carpenter, and Robert Carpenter; Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews. He is also survived by Danielle’s sisters, Vanessa Noble Bednash, Mikaela Noble Shaffer, and Brittany Noble who he loved very much. A celebration of Jason’s life will be held in the spring and will be announced at the convenience of the family. Walsh passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family early Friday morning, on January 17th, 2020.
William, known lovingly by all as Bino, was born on January 14th, 1955, to Myles and Dorothy Walsh. Bino is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Tekla Walsh, siblings Myles Walsh Jr., Joe Walsh, and Colleen Burns. Also survived by his children and their spouses Brian and Editha Walsh, Patrick and Erin Walsh, and Tekla and Alex Darrow. He will be especially missed by his grandchildren Aira Mae, Aryanna, Britney, Nathan, William, Bryce, Nickolas, Autumn, Abagale, Chase, and Aaron. In keeping with Bino’s wishes, a private service will be held with the immediate family. Special thanks to the staff at Traditional Hospice for their excellent care. Dietrich, 93, of Springville died Saturday January 11 at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.
Her husband, Louis, passed away in 1987. Born in Lathrop Twp. Susquehanna County, she is the daughter of the Andrew and Lauretta Frisbie Pratt. She was a graduate of Nicholson High School and retired from the Bendix Corp. in South Montrose in 1991 after 30 years. She also operated the family dairy farm in Springville with her husband Louis. She loved crossword puzzles and puzzle books, was an expert at finding four-leaf clovers, and loved to listen to country music. Retha is survived by a son, Duane Dietrich; two daughters, Linda Vasquez and Pamela Marshall; two grandchildren, Brant Marshall and Kristy Bennett, and a great granddaughter, Stevie Bennett. Interment was held in the Nicholson Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Douglas P. Pascoe, 66, of Hop Bottom, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton. His wife was the late Vivyenne Choplosky Pascoe.
Born in Paterson, NJ, Doug was the son of the late Gladys Brown Pascoe and Stanley Pascoe. Doug was a hard worker and was well known in the stone industry for over 40 years. He spent many years coaching high school basketball and little league baseball. One of his greatest accomplishments was coaching his children. He enjoyed traveling and in his younger years, he raced stock cars. Some of his most recent hobbies included fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and attending sporting events. Doug is survived by four children, Shannon Schmidt and husband Adam of Reading; Meghan Casselbury and husband Jason of Hop Bottom, Marty Evans and wife Bridget of Kingsley, and Heather Smith and husband, Trent of Harford, a sister, Margaret Pascoe, Hawaii, a niece Stephanie Baker and nephew Wayne Wellman, nine grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Craige Smith, Morgan Brown, Josie Evans, Rachael Evans, Rhys Evans, Wyatt Casselbury, Madisyn Casselbury, and Kennedy Schmidt; and two great-grandchildren, Collin Brown and Lawson Smith. He was also predeceased by a brother, Stanley Pascoe and a grandson Cpl. Chad Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Family and friends may call from 10am until service time. William A. Ross, 59, of Nicholson, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, after a lengthy illness at home.
His wife is Gail Rosencrance Ross, and they have been married for 40 years. Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late James C. Ross and Lois Smith Ross. William was a lifelong resident of Nicholson and worked in heavy construction as a test core driller. He also loved hunting, fishing and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren. William is also survived by a son, Nathan Ross and wife, Jane, of Nicholson; a daughter, Tiffany Ross, of Dimock; two brothers, Dennis Ross, of Scranton; and Theodore Hartman, of West Pittston; a sister, Linda Holly, of West Pittston; seven grandchildren, Noah, Carter, Lilah, Jacob, David, Charlie and Cash; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service by Pastor Sean Heuer of The Bridge Community Church in Nicholson will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson.
