Lila S. Loch, 85, of Springville passed away Monday March 4 at the Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Taylor.
Her husband, William E. Loch, passed away in 2022. Born in Springville, she is the daughter of the late Max and Martha Reed Springer. Prior to retiring she worked at the Montrose Hospital and Medical Arts Clinic for 62 years where she held several positions including bookkeeper. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom and its women’s guild, a member of the Springville Ladies Auxiliary, a former Boy Scout leader of Pack 97 Springville, and also helped with Girl Scouts. Lila is survived by one son, Alan Loch (Julie); two brothers, Bob Springer (Barb) and Paul Springer (companion Pat); sister in law, Nancy Loch; two grandchildren, Brandon and Emma Loch; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services by Pastor Steven R. Geske will be Saturday March 9 at 11am in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson followed by interment in the Tyler Hill Cemetery in Springville. There will be a viewing from 10am until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Springville Volunteer Fire Company or the Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom.

Roy R. Silfee, 71, of Kingsley, PA passed away Thursday February 29 at home.
His wife of 49 years is Linda Kishbaugh Silfee. Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late Gilbert and Anna Patrick Silfee. Prior to retirement Roy worked as a mason. He will always be remembered and greatly missed. Roy is survived by a son, Joseph Silfee; a stepson, Victor Gromadin; two brothers, Robert and Paul Silfee; five sisters, Jean Balmer, Esther Norris, Barbara Conklin, Sarah Gontz, and Joyce Michaels; six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Troy Silfee, and six brothers and sisters. It was Roy’s wish that there will be no services. Gary P. Czekalski 72, of Hop Bottom PA passed away peacefully at Allied Services Hospice & Palliative Care, on Wednesday February 28th, 2024. He was born on January 25th, 1952 in Scranton PA. to Leonard Czekalski and Kathryn Czekalski.
He married his best friend and love of his life of 42 years, Diane Czekalski, on June 27th,1981. He graduated from Scranton Tech HS. in 1970. He started working as a bag and delivery boy at Catalano’s Market and later joined the Army Reserves as a cook, to later begin a career in the bar business ending as an owner of the Halfway House Bar & Restaurant for over 20 years only to start a new career as an autobody paint technician at Daniele’s Autobody Shop in Pleasantville NY. Gary later became a councilman for Hop Bottom Borough. He was predeceased by his 2 sisters (Kay Daniele & Barbara Rade) and a daughter Carrie Kolankoski. He is survived by his wife Diane, 3 daughters Carrie Miller (Keith Miller), Gwendolyn Benson, and Danielle Hewitt (Daniel Hewitt), 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. As well as his brother Robert McGurrin of Woodstock, England and many nephews & a niece. Gary loved fishing with his family, as well as golfing. He also enjoyed showing dogs in conformation, and taught a conformation handling class for show dogs. Later in life he loved cooking, baking, spending time with his family, and his best buddy Boo the cat. Family and friends are invited to Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson PA. on Thursday March 7, 2024 for calling hours from 3-4pm with funeral services at 4pm. Tindle, 78, of Nicholson passed away Friday February 23 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
His wife is Margaret Heisler Manzer and they have been married for five and a half years. His first wife, Michele Foceny Tindle, passed away in 2012. Born in Evansville, Indiana he is the son of the late Frank and Ruby Tindle. Jack was a proud Marine and served during Vietnam. He as a computer technician for IBM and after retiring was employed at several business and had his own computer business. He also volunteered for the Fleetville Fire Company and also as an EMT. Jack is also survived by two daughters, Deborah Buck and Diane Pederson; a brother and sister; five grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Jack was a kind, caring, thoughtful man, a real true gentleman. A very special thank you to Craige and Brandi Smith, our grandchildren, for keeping up with Jack's care and companionship. At Jack's request, there will be no services. Roy Noble, 79, of Springville passed away Thursday February 15 at the Endless Mountains Health System in Montrose.
His wife is Louise Kiefer Noble and they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on August 23rd. Born in Springville, he is the son of the late George and Edna Ellis Noble. He was a lifelong dairy farmer and was dedicated to his family and his farm. He was always willing to help anyone. Roy is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Rogers (Michael) and Betty Dobrinski (Mike); a brother, Randy Noble; four grandchildren, Mike and Kayla Dobrinski and Brandon and Alexis Rogers; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Lewis Noble. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Lynn Cemetery. Arrangements by the Charles H. She was predeceased by her husband’s Cliveo Paolucci and Alfio Paolucci. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Ray and Annette Piere Nichols. Prior to retiring she was a nurse’s aide. She was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed by her family. June is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Ross; a brother, Harold Nichols; a sister in law, Brenda Nichols; a grandson, William Cameron; and the companion of her deceased daughter Rose Ann Cameron, Michael Cook. Funeral services will be Tuesday February 20 at 12 Noon in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson with a viewing from 11am until service time. Schmidt, 88, of Nicholson passed away from complications of kidney failure on February 7, 2024 at Regional Hospital in Scranton.
She is the wife of the late David E. Schmidt Sr. who passed away in 2010. Lorraine was born in Chicopee Falls, MA on September 14, 1935 daughter of the late Willard W. Irion Sr. and Helen P. Irion of Nicholson, PA. She attended Nicholson High School and graduated in 1953. Lorraine and husband Dave owned and operated Schmidt’s Valley Farm Market for many years. After closing the market Lorraine worked for Macy’s. She specialized in Ralph Lauren fashions and catered to many special customers. Lorraine and David also worked together selling plants at the Feed Mill Finds in Nicholson. Lorraine was a member of the Nicholson United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Nicholson Women’s Club, Nicholson Business Association, Nicholson Heritage Association, and the Secret Pal Club. Lorraine is survived by a son, David E. Schmidt Jr. & companion Lynn Gower; two daughters, Bette Ann Cobb & husband Marshall Cobb, and Susan Schmidt; a brother, William W. Irion Jr. and wife, Sandra Irion; a sister, Joan Jenkins; two granddaughters, Aubrey Schmidt Scattone & husband Keith Scattone, and Katherine Schmidt Saioni & husband Mike Saioni; a grandson, Willard Cobb; three great grandchildren, Sal, Lucca, and Enzo Saioni; two nephews, Richard Jenkins Jr. and Robert Jenkins & fiancé Patti Collins; and a grandniece, Taylor Jenkins. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, David; and a brother in law, Richard Jenkins. Beverly Helen Michaels (Frederici) passed away peacefully Thursday, February 8, 2024, at The Gardens in Tunkhannock, PA. She was born in March 19, 1937 in Carbondale, PA; she was the daughter of Henry C. and Mildred J Frederici (Moon). Her husband of 61 years was the former Thomas John Michaels who passed in January 2018.
A lifetime resident of Benton Twp., she was a graduate of Harford High School. As a teenager, she worked at the Clifford Market. She spent much of her adult life working in the community. She transported school students for many years. Beverly loved giving time to the Ladies Auxiliary at the Fleetville Fire Company and also helped work and support the Harford Fair. Also surviving are daughters Carol Atkinson and husband, Chris, Jane Townsend and husband, Jim; Sandi Yushinsky and husband, Tom; and Deborah Josephite and husband Anthony; her twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The family will have calling hours on Monday, February 19 from 11-1pm with funeral services at 1pm by Dr. Rev. William Townsend in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Fleetville Fire Company, 58 Firehouse Lane, Fleetville PA 18420. Gary R. Stout, 65, of Nicholson passed away on Tuesday, January 30 after a brief illness.
He was born June 4, 1958 son of Norman and Mary Kittle Stout. He was a graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School and was an eight year Navy veteran. Gary is survived by his wife, Anne Oakes Stout, Candor, NY; his mother, Mary Stout; two sons, Nathan R. Stout, Candor, NY., and Heath T. Stout, Houston, TX.; a sister, Sharon Wademan; a brother, Russell (Donna) Stout; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Stout; son, Shane Stout; brother, Stephen N. Stout; and sister, Kathleen Merritt. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date. John Alden Byram, 81, of Nicholson Township, passed away Thursday at the Meadow View Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Montrose.
Born in Morristown, NJ., he is the son of the late Woodrow and Edna Norton Byram. He was an Army veteran and served during Vietnam. John was a carpenter, electrician, and a Jack of All trades. He and his twin brother, Bob, worked together building and fixing all things under the sun for many years. John was a very kind man with a heart of gold and a legendary beard who was always right there to lend a helping hand. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Elaine Byrne; a niece, Nadine Grothmann; a grand nephew, Gregg Grothmann; and a grand niece, Audrey Grothmann. He is also survived his girls that he loved dearly and thought of as his own, Heather, Crystal, Nicole, Julie, and Faith; their families and all of their children which he dearly loved. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Robert "Ebb" Byram, in 2017. There will be calling hours and viewing from 5-7pm Monday, February 5 in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Following the viewing at 7pm, family and friends are invited to share memories John.
