 Richard Stanley Lochen, 83 of Nicholson passed away Thursday, January 25th after a brief illness.
Born in Nicholson, Dick was the son of the late Paul and Ramona Lochen. Dick was a lifelong resident of Nicholson, a town he cared about deeply. He served his community as an active firefighter for sixty-five years, and was fire chief of the Nicholson Fire Company for 35 years. Prior to his retirement, Dick was proprietor of Lochen's Market where he enjoyed the company of his customers and special employees. He loved the outdoors and spent his free time hunting in West Nicholson and fishing with his best friend, Joe Woolsey. He was a founding member of the Nicholson Sportsman's Club and taught hunter safety to the youth in his town. An avid golfer, Dick enjoyed spending time golfing with his son and grandsons. Dick was deeply committed to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Sarah Jane (Watson). He is also survived by his son Rick and his wife Lisa; three grandsons, Richard III and wife Ashley, Nicholson, Matthew, Elgin Illinois and Bradley, Nicholson; his great granddaughter, Harper Anne; a brother, William; and a sister Paula. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all the friends and neighbors who have lent support, as well as Allied Hospice for their care during his brief stay. David Reploeg, 81, of Nicholson passed away Sunday, January 21 at The Gardens in Scranton.
Born on Worchester, NY he is the son of the late Helmut and Hannah Jobmann Reploeg. Prior to retiring he worked in construction and was a Navy veteran. He was an honorary member of the 2nd Brigade motorcycle club. David is survived by two sons, Kurt and Carl; a sister, Ann Ferrerio; and several grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Steve. There will be calling hours and viewing from 3-5pm Saturday, January 27 in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson  Arthur R. Wadge III, 45, of Nicholson passed away Sunday, January 21 at home.
Born in Scranton, he is the son of Arthur R. Wadge Jr. of Nicholson and the late Joan B. Teserovitch Wadge. Prior to his illness he was employed as the maintenance manager for Nicholson Borough and was also employed at Nicholson NAPA auto parts. He was a lifetime member of the Nicholson Fire Company. He was a former coach of the Nicholson Christy Mathewson Girls Little League softball team and a longtime member of the Nicholson Athletic Association. Artie was an avid hunter, loved bowling, and would go out of his way to help anyone. He was fond of telling jokes and his favorite saying was “Don’t let your meatloaf!” Arthur is also survived by three sisters, Sherry Anderson, Valerie Wadge, and Stacey Derylak; his paternal grandmother, Mary Oakley; one niece and one nephew; and aunts and uncles. There will be calling hours and viewing on Wednesday, January 24 from 1-3 and 5-7pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Haussler Jr., 80, of Dalton passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at Geisinger CMC Hospital in Scranton after a brief illness.
Born in Dalton, he is the son of the late Walter and Gladys Phillips Haussler. Walter was a 1961 graduate of Lackawanna Trail Junior/Senior High School where he excelled in sports and was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams. Upon graduation he entered the United States Navy for which he served proudly. He was honorably discharged as Chief Petty Officer. After returning home, he was employed by PennDot. In 1970 he was hired by Wes Herron at Nicholson Lumber where he was a devoted employee until his retirement in 2005. Walter was a lifelong member of the Dalton Fire Company in which he served many offices. He was also a lifelong member of the Dalton United Methodist Church. Walter was a hardworking man with a hilarious sense of humor. Everyone enjoyed talking with Walt at the “Yard”. He was a loving and generous son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was predeceased by his parents; older brother, William Haussler; and nephew, Mark Haussler. Walter is survived by his loving sister, Linda (William) Herron ; sister in law, Ruth Haussler; nieces, Beth (David) Daub and Kim (Tim) Stiteler; nephew, Bruce (Michelle) Herron; great nephew, Evan (Brittany) Herron; great nieces, Lindsay and Rachel Daub, Kari Stiteler, and Emily Herron; and great great niece, Lilah Herron. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson  Nancy E. Taylor, 91, of Hop Bottom, Lenox Township, passed away Monday January 15 at Allied Services Hospice Center in Scranton.
Her husband, Wayne Taylor, passed away in 2018. They were married in 1955 and married for 63 years when he passed. Born in Kingsley, she is the daughter of the late Cleon and Marion Jackson Powers. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. Through the years she cared for and babysat many local children. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Nancy is survived by two daughters, Marian Zablotsky (Harry) and Kathy Taylor (companion Jay Seamans); two sons, William Taylor and James Taylor (Laurie); a brother, Robert Powers; six grandchildren, Bethany Horn (Christian), Lucas Taylor, Marc Taylor (Alyssa), Brendan Evans, Brandi Taylor, and Brayden Taylor; and two great grandchildren, Hallie Mae Evans and Jack Taylor. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard. The family would like to thank Allied Services Hospice Center for the excellent care and respect shown to their mother during her time there. Funeral services celebrated by her grandson, Rev. Lucas Taylor, will be held Saturday at 3pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. There will be a viewing Saturday from 1pm until service time. Interment will be held in the Tower Cemetery at West Lenox at a later date.  Beverly Herbert, 88, of Hop Bottom passed away on Sunday, December 24 at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna.
Her husband, Lewis, passed away in 2018. Born in Harford, she is the daughter of the late Wesley and Margaret Grinell Erhardt. She was a member of the Hop Bottom United Methodist Church. Beverly was an avid traveler and loved sitting on her porch watching people. Beverly is survived by two daughters, Michelle Fritz (Ronald) and Marlene Grubbs; two sons, Jeffrey Herbert (Paula Smith) and Richard Herbert (Michele); nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren,; and one great great grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Dennis; and three brothers, Gary, Neil, and William Gamble. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be to Laura’s Hope Rescue, 3385 Forest St, Hop Bottom, PA  John Joseph Lynch, 82, of Nicholson peacefully passed away December 14, 2023 at home after 13 years with Parkinson's.
Born in Scranton on July 4, 1941 he is the son of the late Francis and Dorothy (Karl) Lynch. John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bernice Ann (Kenia) Lynch. He is also survived by three children; Kathleen, wife of Paul Armstrong, Wake Forest, NC; Andrea, wife of Edward Ostrowski, Reinholds, PA; and Martin, husband of Sheila (Wagner) Lynch; twelve grandchildren, Rachel, Sean, and Ian Armstrong; Margaretann (Sean) McMahon; Josephine (Patrick) Morgan; Katherine, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Jacob, Miriam, and Evelyn Ostrowski; and John Martin Lynch; five great grandchildren, Maria and Edith McMahon; and Joan, Damian and Martin Morgan; nieces and nephews; and a brother, Gerald (Charlotte) Lynch, Oceanside, CA; and sister in laws Loretta and Pattie Kenia. He was preceded in death by a brother, David, in 2001 and brother in laws Bernard and Raymond Kenia. John graduated from Lackawanna Trail HS in 1960 and from Williamsport Technical School in 1962. He was drafted into the Army in 1963, serving two years in the Signal Corp, and also teaching cadets at West Point. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant E-5. He was employed at Bendix Allied-Signal Honeywell Aerospace in South Montrose for 29 years as a manager of Quality Assurance before retiring in 1991. Following his retirement, he was employed for many years at Fortna, Reading, PA as a systems engineer. John was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Always caring and helpful, many turned to him for advice and counsel. John and Bernice enjoyed many years of traveling, visiting their children and grandchildren, helping them with projects in their homes. John enjoyed playing with, teaching, and instilling values in his grandchildren. John and Bernice also enjoyed many many winters in Lakeland, Florida with good friend Betty Mills. John was a member of St. Patrick Church in Nicholson. He was a long-time member of the Factoryville Sportsmen's Club; his father, Francis Lynch, was a founding member. Also, he was a 58-year member of the Nicholson American Legion, Post 953. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all the friends and neighbors who have helped support John and Bernice. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Patrick Church, Nicholson. Esther Joan Alt, born November 26, 1928, into the Ellis family, passed away peacefully in her sleep November 6, 2023. Esther grew up in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Julia and Louis Ellis. Esther is survived by her older sister Helen, younger brother Elmer (Ann), husband Theodore, sons Michael(Chris) and Stephen(Julia), grandchildren Shaun, Gregory, Megan(Tyler), and Shane, and great granddaughter, Riley. She was predeceased by siblings Rose, Louis Jr., Julia, Albert, Ida, and Mildred.
Esther was part of a very large family and always enjoyed visiting and talking with family and friends. She liked traveling and visited many places around the country. She journeyed throughout Europe in her early adult life, took an Alaskan cruise with her grandchildren, and she visited Hungary in her 80’s. Her parents immigrated from Hungary and that trip was a lifelong goal for Esther. Esther lived in many places including Pennsylvania, New York, Georgia, California, and Indiana. She enjoyed all of them and found friends everywhere. After the birth of her children, she stepped back from her working life and became a full-time mother. When Michael and Stephen grew up, she pursued a career in accounting with several California based companies before retiring from Prudential Real Estate. Esther will be buried in the Ellis Family Plot at Nicholson Cemetery in Nicholson Pennsylvania on December 6, 2023, at 1:00pm. Her wishes were for a small ceremony with family and close friends. Louis Anthony Trilone, 64, of Hop Bottom passed away Sunday, November 26 at home.
Born in Bound Brook, New Jersey he is the son of the late William and Lucy Gorski Trilone. He was formerly employed as a business manager at his brother's electrical contracting firm and supported various children's hospitals and veterans groups through their charities. Louis is survived by three brothers, Anthony, Joseph, and William Trilone; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrated by Rev. William Hagenbuch will held Saturday, December 9 at 1pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street Nicholson. Friends may call from 12 Noon until service time. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Louis.  Robert P. Berube, 80, of Nicholson passed away Thursday, November 16 at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
His wife is Marie Olivo Doty. Born in Lewiston, Maine he is the son of the late Robert and Cecile Caron Berube. Robert is a Navy veteran having served from 1961 to 1967. He also is a member of the Lake Sheridan Bible Chapel, the Nicholson and Clifford Senior Citizens, and a member of the Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club. He was a beautiful patriotic gentleman who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved the Lord and is at home with the Lord. Robert will be very missed. Robert is also survived by a son, Vy Stephen Doty; stepchildren Robert Trinneer Jr., Melanie McCord, Linda Doty, Samantha Wiggins, and Stephanie Doty; a brother Raymond Berube; two sisters, Pauline Rocheleau and Joann Dube; 15 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Berube. A memorial service will be held at the Lake Sheridan Bible Chapel in December. Memorial donations may be made to the Lake Sheridan Bible Chapel. |
