Kenneth Alan Yerkes, age 63, of Nicholson died Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
His wife of 40 years is Donna Philkill Yerkes. Born January 3, 1956 in Quakertown, he is the son of the late Jack Yerkes and the late Mary Shimsky Mohr. He worked for the James River Corporation as a paper laborer in Warren Glen, New Jersey and also for Lackawanna Trail High School in Factoryville. Kenny was a caring and loving man who fought the battle and continued to enjoy life, hunting, creating, and living simply. Kenny is also survived by two daughters, Tiffany and Kandice Yerkes; a granddaughter, Gabriella Winters; and a sister, Carol Griffith. He was predeceased by a brother, James; and a sister, Kathi Russo. The family will have calling hours to celebrate the life of Kenneth, Saturday, October 26 from 2-4pm in the Charles H. Joseph G. Mulhern, 83, of Nicholson, died peacefully surrounded by family while holding the hand of his wife of 58 years, Maureen Brek Mulhern, Friday at The Gardens in Tunkhannock.
Born in Pittston, July 6, 1936, he is the son of the late Joseph and Jane Ray Mulhern. Prior to retiring, he was employed as an estimator for the G. Weinberger Company and was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 524. He was also a member of the Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson and a member of the American Kennel Club. He loved to hunt with his boys, show his beloved Samoyeds, and make memorable woodworking gifts for his grandchildren. Joseph is also survived by two sons, Kevin and wife, Lori, and Michael and wife, Leslie; a daughter, Maureen Brace and husband, David; a sister, Jane Roche; six grandchildren, David Brace and wife, Marissa; Adam Brace, Colleen Brace, Colin Mulhern, Gavin Mulhern, and Kiera Mulhern; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Brace. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph G. Mulhern Jr., and two brothers, James and John. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. June Wadlington passed into the hands of the Lord on Saturday, October 5th, 2019, at the age of 87. June was born in 1932 and grew up in West Nicholson, graduating from Nicholson High School in 1950. She married George Wadlington in 1951 and they were married for 38 years until his death in 1989.
She was an outgoing, outspoken, caring, and trusting person who enjoyed her family, Mets baseball, and Nascar. In recent years, she lived in Collinsville, VA, and thoroughly enjoyed a day at the races in nearby Martinsville. She loved to crochet and sew and was able to sew just about anything. She was an avid reader, including the Bible which she read every night, reading it cover to cover many times over. She was an animal lover – especially dogs. She didn’t go anywhere without her little dog, Peggy, usually in her lap. She was a member of the John Wayne fan club and had a picture of him on her bedroom wall. She also had a soft spot for Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride. She never met a kid she didn’t like and they felt the same way about her. She was a member of West Nicholson United Methodist Church since childhood and sang in the choir there. She and her sisters, cousins, and niece made up a singing group known as ‘The Family Singers.’ Besides Pennsylvania and Virginia, June had also lived in New York and Florida. June was the daughter of the late Kenneth and L’Neita Rogers of West Nicholson. She is survived by her children George Robert (George Bob) Wadlington, Bonnie Monell, Sheila Wadlington, Darrel Wadlington, Patrick Wadlington, and adoptive daughter Christine Martin; brother Carl Rogers; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband George, son Roger, and sisters Elaine Herman and Ruth Ann Jendreck. The family will receive visitors on Thursday evening from 5-7pm at Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home in Nicholson, with a funeral service following on Friday at 10:30am at the West Nicholson United Methodist Church. His wife, Leota Mushinski Walder, died in 2011.
Born in Mount Holly, N.J., he was the son of the late Paul P. Walder Sr. and Anna Stupar Walder. Before retiring, he was a facility engineer for Mobile Research in Princeton, N.J. He was a member of the Hop Bottom United Methodist Church, Harford Lodge 445, a social member of Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488 and served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962. Bruce is survived by a son, Bruce Jr., Archbald; a daughter, Michele J. Walder, Wilmington, Del.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Sturdevant, age 54, of Nicholson died Tuesday, August 20th at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Her husband is Robert Sturdevant and they have been married for 35 years. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of Theodore Zech of Nicholson and the late Ruth Seeley Zech. She was formerly employed as a medical assistant technician for Endless Mountain Health System. Nadine is also survived by four daughters, Courtney Shupp, Alicia Zona and husband Jeromy, Krystal Sturdevant and Kayla Sturdevant; one brother, Theodore Zech Jr.; four sisters, LuAnn Rogers, Tamela Kelley, Jodi Zech, and Janice Stankiewicz; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons Bradley Jacob, Brian Andrew, and Ryan Alan Robert; and a granddaughter, Angel Marie. A memorial gathering will be held Friday, August 30th from 6-8pm in the Charles H. Kleiner Jr. passed away in 2011.
Born in Wilmot Township, Bradford County, she is the daughter of the late Albert J. and Mary Elizabeth Kilbourn Stoddard. She was a member of Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson and a 1955 graduate of Wyalusing High School. Charlotte is survived by two sons, Alexander F. Kleiner III and wife, Mary of Berwick and Richard M. Kleiner and wife, Mary of Parma, Ohio; one daughter, Kellie Brown and husband, Eric of Nicholson; two brothers, Joseph and Lloyd Stoddard, both of Sugar Run; two sisters, Jean Montgomery of Manassas, VA. and Ilene Thibodeau of Bradenton, Fl; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a special niece Dale Vongphommachanh. Stanton, age 78, of Nicholson, passed away peacefully surrounded by family to go home with the Lord Tuesday at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Her husband is Donald A. Stanton Sr. and they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage on November 1. Born in Lenoxville, she is the daughter of the late Herbert and Madeline Conrad Rood. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nicholson for over 50 years. She had worked at Schmidt’s Valley Farm Market, Lochen’s Market, and Irene Sportswear and was proud of being a housewife. She also was a former member of the Nicholson Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary. She loved having family dinners, country music, gardening, and church picnics. Her granddaughter Kristen wanted to be to become a nurse to be able to care for her and she was able to do so. Nellie is also survived by two sons; Donald Jr., wife, Jodi and Timothy, wife Michelle; a brother, Frank Rood; a sister, Irene Harding; four grandchildren, Kyle, wife Catherine, Blaine, Jeremy, and Kristen; and two great grandchildren, Colby and Chase. She was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Herbert, and Lindley; and three sisters, Janice Antoine, Donna Valentine, and Linda Griffing. A viewing will be held Friday from 4-7pm in the Charles H. Taube, 42, of Hockessin, Del., died Saturday at the Seasons Hospice Inpatient Unit at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del. Her husband is Mason Taube and they have been married for 18 years.
Born in Camp Lejeune, N.C., she was the daughter of Thomas and Elaine Forba Remington of Hop Bottom. She was a 1994 graduate of Mountain View High School in Kingsley, a 1998 graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, and graduated from the University of Delaware, Newark, in 2006 with a PhD in molecular biology. She worked as a researcher, teacher and tutor and also as a volunteer for PAWS for People. Jennifer is also survived by two daughters; Kaitlyn Ann and Linda Elizabeth Taube, both at home. Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, with services by the Rev. Leslie Bullock. Interment will be held in the Nicholson Cemetery.
