Dr. Robert A. Mancuso, age 80, of Nicholson died Sunday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.
His wife is the former Thelma J. Oliver and they have been married 48 years. Born in Archbald, he is the son of the late John and Rose Cerene Mancuso. He was a graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and was a practiced chiropractor for 40 years. He also attended the Lake Sheridan Bible Chapel. Robert is also survived by a daughter, Colleen Davis; two sons, Rob and Jeff Mancuso; one brother, Jackie Mancuso; two sisters, Frances Consagra and his twin Betty Livsey; four grandchildren, Tyler C. Mancuso, Sophia C. Mancuso, Victoria R. Davis, and Caden T. Davis; and a great granddaughter, Kylie Mancuso. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8pm in the Charles H. Jeannette May Smith, 72, of View Lane, Factoryville, Pa., died Sunday morning June 9, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in West Nicholson, she was the youngest daughter of the late Douglas J. Smith Sr. and the former Elnora Squier. Jeannette was a beautiful lady, loving mother and adoring grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing, horses and gardening. She was a devoted homemaker and later worked at Walmart in Tunkhannock for many years. Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Laura (Roland) Anderson, Steven (Marie) Smith, Tammy (Kevin) McMicken, Jennifer James, Christel (Brett) Flynn, Brandi (Stan) Slocum and Brandon Smith and companion, Kellie Ann; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Douglas E. Smith and Benjamin Smith; and a sister, Madeline Smith. A funeral service by chaplain Jay McCracken will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the West Nicholson United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson. Barbara Kapalski Nichols, Nicholson, died Sunday at Lacawac Sanctuary Lodge in Paupack Twp., Wayne County.
Her husband, Joseph Nichols, died in 1987. Born at Jeffers Pond in Hop Bottom, daughter of the late Henry and Adele Kutulis Kapalski, she was a visual artist and former Nicholson Boro tax collector. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church in Nicholson and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was passionate about the arts and a member of AFA of Scranton and EMCA of Tunkhannock. She also was involved with AL-ANON for more than 25 years and also was a sponsor. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Nichols; a son, Joseph Nichols and wife, Allie, all of Nicholson; two grandchildren, Rebecca Adele Fisher and Michael Joseph Fisher; and her two dogs, Blake Edward and David Bowie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 205 Main St., Nicholson, by the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun. Those who wish to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be held in the Nicholson Cemetery. The family requests donations be made to St. Patrick’s Church in Nicholson in lieu of flowers. Kendra L. Schubert, 47, Chinchilla, died April 25 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Her husband is Gregory Schubert, and they would have been married for 22 years on May 9.
Born in Scranton, the daughter of Maureen Kenyon Zukowski, of Nicholson, and the late Edward Zukowski, she was a 1989 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School and a Keystone College alumnus. The family extends a special thanks to the first responders from South Abington Paramedics and, also, a special thanks for the excellent care from Kelly and the ICU nursing staff. Kendra is also survived by a daughter, Sloane Schubert; two sons, Zane and Grey Schubert, all of Chinchilla; and two brothers, Randy Zukowski, Florida; and Todd Zukowski, Texas. Dr. Patrick John Hagan, son of Paul Hagan and Ernestine Moyer, born on Aug. 26, 1930, died in Scranton, Pa., on April 9, 2019, at the Jewish Home of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Boyd Hagan; his daughters, Lynne Hagan and Jane Guzior. He was predeceased by a son, Mark. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Patrick Hagan and Kimberly Hagan, the children of Mark and Mary Clare Hagan; Gordon Nilson, son of Bruce Nilson and Lynne Hagan; and John Guzior and Kathleen Guzior, the children of William and Jane Guzior. Prior to retirement, Dr. Hagan was on otolaryngologist and founder of the E.N.T. Surgical Group of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and chief of otolaryngology of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. After receiving his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, he served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for two years and then went on to complete his residency at Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville, Pa. Grace Miriam (Mim) Woolsey, formerly of Nicholson, passed away Friday holding the hand of the love of her life, Joseph. They were married 72 years on Aug. 21, 2018.
Born in Laceyville on June 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Matilda Dull Forscht. Even though her nursing career was short, she continued her devotion to others through community service in their home of 68 years, Nicholson, where she also was a member of the Nicholson United Methodist Church. Mim will always be loved by her children: daughter, Carol Potochnick; son, Larry (Christine) Woolsey; grandchildren, John Mark Potochnick, Creigthon (Rosie) Potochnick, Nick (Haley) Potochnick, Josh (Michelle) Woolsey, Jared ( Brady) Woolsey; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Caleb, Logan, Connor, Chase, Greylon and Noella; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Thomas, Edward and Hank; a sister, Jean; and a son-in- law John Potochnick. A memorial service will be held at a later date. His wife is the former Donna Kauffman and they have been married for ten years. Born in York, he is the son of the late Gene & Florence King Brenneman. Ralph was a Lathrop Township Supervisor, the Lathrop Township roadmaster, and was also an Auctioneer licensed in four states. He also was a member of the Waterloo Boys of Southeastern PA and the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association. Ralph is survived by a stepson, Clarence Smith and wife Marie of Stewartstown. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 30 from 1-3pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Born April 2, 1922 in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Pepper Martin and Pauline Ollendicke Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; three of her sons, Charles, William and Thomas; two grandsons and one great-grandson. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mulqueen Lane (David); her son, George Mulqueen (Jeanne Poplawsky); 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She left this life the same way she lived her life, on her own terms. Paul M. Henry, 83, of Hop Bottom, died Friday after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, in 2016.
Born in Montrose, son of the late Myron and Edna Howard Henry, Paul was a graduate of Montrose High School. He was a truck driver for Ross Feeds and retired in 2015. He was a lifetime member of the Hop Bottom Hose Company serving a chief for 17 years. He also served as the mayor of Hop Bottom for 20 years. Surviving are a son, Brian; three daughters, Susanna, Carla and Sandra; 10 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his special buddies, Butterscotch and Keden. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hop Bottom United Methodist Church, with services by Pastor Lynn Wilcox. Family and friends may call from 1 until service time. Hollenbeck, 68, of New Milford, Harford Twp., died Monday at Allied Services Hospice in Scranton. Her husband is Gary Hollenbeck. They have been married for 40 years.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor Salai Nowacky. Before becoming ill, she was the voter registrar for Susquehanna County for 28 years. She loved going to her grandsons’ baseball, basketball and soccer games. She also loved to go antiquing. The family extends a special thank you to Allied Services Hospice doctors and nurses. Also surviving are a son, Darin Bain and wife, Jackie, Brooklyn; a daughter, Nora M. Scheer and husband, Alex, Savannah, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Cominsky, Royersford; and Jennifer Carey, Archbald; two grandsons, Hudson and Carter Bain, Brooklyn; and four stepgrandchildren, Leah and Tyler Cominsky, Royersford; and Ethan and Evan Carey, Archbald. She was also predeceased by a sister, Brenda Familetti. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, by the Rev.
