 Arlene Hlavaty Zablotsky, 87 of Clark Summit, passed away May 14, 2023 at Allied Services, Clarks Summit, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Zablotsky and her youngest son, Phillip Zablotsky.
Born in Greenfield Township, she was the daughter of of the late John and Anna (Ritko) Hlavaty. She was employed as a nurse for several years at the Clark Summit State Hospital and also drove an activities school bus for Mountain View School District for several years before her retirement. Arlene was a public servant for Hop Bottom Borough in Susquehanna County for a number of years. She was a member of the Big Band Society and the Italian American Association. Arlene was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, public servant, and friend. Surviving are her companion and friend George (Glenn) Smith of Clark Summit; three sons, Theodore (Ted) and wife Brenda of Harrisburg, David and wife Naomi of Dorrance, and Harry and wife Marian of Hop Bottom; grandchildren, Stephen and wife Sherry of Elizabethtown, Brandee Zablotsky of Middletown, Kemp Zablotsky of California, Charise and husband Michael Moeller of Philadelphia , Kori Zablotsky and her fiancé David Snyder of Pittston, and Bethany and husband Christian Horn of Texas, a great-granddaughter, Aislynne Zablotsky of Elizabethtown; brother-in-law, Donald Zablotsky, Kingsley; sister-in-law, Nancy Zablotsky, Maryland and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers (Micheal, Edward, Joseph, John and Andrew) and a sister (Agnes). Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson, PA. Friends may pay their respects on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church, 205 Main Street, Nicholson, PA. Immediately following the Mass, Interment will take place at the Tower Cemetery in West Lenox.

 Joe Lillis, 70, passed away May 14,2023 at home in New Milford after a long battle with cancer.
Born April 22,1953 and is survived by his wife Chris and three sons Michael Robbins (wife Jennifer), Bobby Robbins and Kyle Lillis, two grandsons Ethan and Evan Robbins, sister Eda Carrotto (husband Rusty) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents John and Anna Lillis, two brothers John and Dan Lillis and a niece Lisa Carrotto. Joe was employed as plant manager at Maid Rite Specialty Foods until his retirement. The lasting friendships he made held a very special place in his heart, especially with Joe Schmidt and his family. Joe was very involved with the youth in the area. He was president of Harford baseball as well as a coach and president of Area P Special Olympics. He loved spending time with "his kids". He will be missed by many. A Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date.  Jonathan (Jon) Ryan Steele, 30 of Nicholson, son of Kathleen and Steven Sturdevant died at home on April 20, 2023.
He was on May 1, 1992 in Kingston, PA at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital. Jon loved outdoor activities and nature, especially animals. He was musically, artistically, and mechanically gifted and talented. His abilities were limitless, most of which were self taught. He was a caring, compassionate, and thoughtful person; always putting the needs of others before his own even if it meant at his own expense. When it comes to God's artistry in this world, Jon was a masterpiece. Besides his parents, Jon is survived by his sister; Beth Howard; brothers, Steven and Kevin Steele; an aunt, Carolyn Sturdevant; and special friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents; Charles and Phyliss Sturdevant and Harold and Martha Brecht; stepfather, James Steele; a half sister, Lee Leslie; and two aunts, Jo Anne Allis and Janet Brecht. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6 from 2-4pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson.  Proverbs 31:28-29 Her children stand and bless her. Katherine Louise Garrison, better known as Kate or Katie, died of natural causes at the age of 87 on March 25, 2023 after a brief stay at the Dunmore Health Care Center in Dunmore, PA. She is the daughter of Harold and Dorothy Gould Green. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on June 29, 1935 she was one of ten children; Karl, Harold II, Fritz, Frank, Clifford, Larry, Rodger, Nina, Dorothy, and Mildred. Katherine was married 69 years to her best friend, Lewis Robert Garrison, inseparable until his death on September 9, 2000. Together they had six children; Ruby, Bela, Lewis, Michael, William, and Pamela and later adopting two of the many foster children that graced our home, David and Diana. Mom and Dad loved family and every summer would gather family and friends from near and far for one fun packed family reunion. After the children grew Mom earned her CNA certification and continued caring for many others in two convalescent nursing facilities. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, every year hunting down some new exotic new plant to add. Dad always had a vegetable garden and mom would can/preserve more jars than we could count from the bounty. Both had very green thumbs. Besides people Mom loved animals. We always had some stray rescued dog or cat in our home, along with raising Persian cats for years; and then throw in a few exotic chickens here and there. Well, goodbye for now Mom. We will surely miss your seafood macaroni salad! Thank you for being the best Mom a kid could ask for!  Elwood G. Phelps, of Hop Bottom, passed away on April 25, 2023, after a brief illness. Born in Scranton, Pa, he was the eldest son of the late Gerald and Frieda Korban Phelps. Raised in Hop Bottom, Elwood graduated from Mountain View High School in the class of 1963. He was married to Suzanne Squier in 1975.
He and his father worked side-by-side on the family dairy farm, and he took over operating the farm when he was in his early 20s. Over the course of his life, Elwood wore many hats in many different occupations. He was a DHIA milk tester for eight years and a sales representative for Seedway, Inc. In addition, he owned and operated a school bus for Mountain View School District for over 40 years. He served his local community as a Lathrop Township supervisor for over 40 years as well. Elwood’s overall friendliness was contagious. He was a very generous and caring person who enjoyed working for his community. He was extremely social, as he found a conversation anywhere he went. He is survived by a son, Timothy and wife Heather with grandchildren Addison and Connor, of Mayfield, sisters Marcia and husband James Alberston of Midlothian, VA, Janice and Sam Burgerhoff of Port Charlotte, FL, Carol Jones of Clifford Township, brother Dennis and Patricia Fox of North Abington Township, also numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne and brother-in-law Terry Jones. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Geisinger CMC for their care and compassion portrayed during this difficult time. Sloat, 92, of Kingsley passed away Tuesday, April 18th at home. Her husband, George Sloat, passed away in 2000.
Born in Windsor, NY she is the daughter of the late Albert and Ida Henry Canfield. She attended the Harford First Congregational Church-UCC and had been a member of the Rebecca's Lodge in New Milford. She loved flowers, birds, her puppies, and loved sitting in the sunshine. She was a beautiful soul and loved by many. Barbara is survived by a son, G. Allan Sloat (Deb); three daughters, Virginia Aberant, Rebecca Henderson, and Gail Batzel (Jim); three brothers, George Canfield (Eloise), Dennis Canfield (Linda), and Richard Canfield; one sister, Lois Salansky; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a special friend Norma. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Jennings; a brother, Doyle Canfield; and a grandson, Adam Sloat. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 25th at the Harford First Congregational Church -UCC with services by Pastor William Hagenbuch at 12 Noon. There will be a viewing at the church from 10am till service time. Interment will be held in the South Gibson Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Harford First Congregational Church -UCC.  Wayne Oakley, aka “Mr. Superrific”, passed peacefully at his home on April 9, 2023. Wayne was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and an avid Steelers and Mets fan. He was a proud Air Force Vietnam Veteran and an active member of the Union Grange #152 and Pomona Grange #7. He never worried, always had a positive attitude, and embraced life to the fullest. You could generally find him enjoying breakfast with family at Jenny Leigh’s, watching hallmark movies from his rocking chair, or tackling an expert sudoku at the kitchen table. Wayne’s contagious love of life and laughter will be remembered long after his passing, which is exactly the legacy he wanted to leave behind.
Farming was always a staple in Wayne’s life, which continued in his later years while serving as the no-till specialist for the Susquehanna County Conservation District. Wayne is survived by his wife of 39 years, Debbie (Peruzzi) Oakley, four siblings, Ricky (Karen), Ivan and Derek Oakley, Dorothy Jenkins, and five children, Julie (Chris) Baker, Sheila Baker, Brandy (Mark) Golden, Saleta (Chris) Jennings, and Michael (Emily) Oakley, along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Helen and Ivan Oakley and siblings Tracy Oakley and Kathy Aldrich. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 13th, 2023, at Charles Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson, PA from 2pm-4pm with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart. Doris Evans, 84, of Hop Bottom passed away Friday March 31, 2023 at Allied Hospice in Scranton.
Her husband is Richard Evans and they have been married for 53 years. Born in Pleasant Mount, she is the daughter of the late Sheldon and Martha Simson DeGroat. She was a member of the Hop Bottom United Methodist Church. Doris is also survived by two sons, Daniel Evans and Michael Hyland; and one grandchild. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 5 at 1pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Friends may call Wednesday from 12 Noon until service time.  On Sunday, March 12, 2023, Delores R. Everett passed away peacefully at the age of 90. She was the widow of Edward R. Everett who passed away on December 21, 2021 to whom she was married for 57 years.
Delores was born in Scranton, Pa. on August 26, 1932 to the late Samuel and Mary Sokolowsky. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School. She spent the first part of her life as a city girl until her marriage to Ed and subsequent move to Lenox, Pa in 1964. Despite her gentle nature and kind-hearted character, she was always known to her friends and family as Tiger. Throughout her lifetime, Tiger worked various jobs and donated her time to friends and family. Her selflessness was evidenced by her unrelenting care of her ailing husband to the very end, just as she had done for her mother years prior. Delores was also preceded in death by her brothers John and Joseph Sokolowsky and her sisters Helen Mokis and Marion McMyne. She is survived by her two children Lori Doyle and Ed Everett; her grandson Michael Doyle; her daughter-in-law Claudia and sisters Pauline Sokolowsky and Gloria Polishan. This Tiger was one of the gentlest creatures to ever walk the earth. Her lessons of loyalty, commitment and perseverance will live on through those whose lives she touched. She will be dearly missed. Her life will be celebrated at a service which is currently being planned for springtime. The actual date and time will be provided once determined. William T. Wickizer, 76, of Nicholson died Tuesday, March 7, at The Gardens at Tunkhannock. His wife is Laura Compton Wickizer and they have been married for 40 years.
Born in Bardwell, he is the son of the late Thomas and Mabel Miller Wickizer. He was formerly employed at Tyler Hospital in security and maintenance. Bill was a Vietnam veteran, where he served in the Navy and was a life member of the Elk Mountain V.F.W. Post 8488. William also is survived two sons, Jason and Jerry Wickizer; a daughter, Billie Jo Wickizer; a brother, Fred Wickizer; a sister, Ruth Ann Fassett; and also grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson |
