Joseph Henry Wetering, 67, of Nicholson, Lenox Township passed away Sunday March 5, 2023 at home. His wife is Beverly Marcy Wetering and they have been married for 40 years.
Born in Brooklyn, NY he is the son of the late Henry and Marion Christofferson Wetering. He is a retired corrections officer for the state of Maryland and he attended the Lenoxville United Methodist Church. Joe served in the U.S. Marines from 1977 to 1981. He was an avid saltwater fisherman and fished in almost every state. He was a history buff, a big fan of nascar and drag racing, and loved his dogs. Joseph is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers; Thomas and Louis. A memorial service celebrated by Rev. Patricia Hanley of the Lenoxville United Methodist Church will be held Friday March 10 at 2pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. David A. Hoadley, 69, of Hop Bottom died at home on Monday, February 27, 2023, following a decade-long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of over 46 years, Mona. He is also survived by his daughter Cassandra Hutton of Matthews, NC and his son Travis of Washington, D.C., as well as their spouses Douglas Hutton and Daniel Hopkins. David was a devoted grandfather to Addison and Carter Hutton of Matthews, NC. He was the brother of Diane Norton of Nicholson and Carol Smith of Blythewood, SC, as well as their spouses Steven Norton and the late Philip Smith. David was also the son of the late Jack and Dorothy Hoadley of Nicholson. In addition, David is survived by many dear extended family members, including Mona’s mother and brothers, Janice Watkins of Nicholson and Gary and Mark Rice of Dallas. David was a compassionate, comical, and steadfast presence in the lives of many. Those that know him best will fondly remember his talent for fixing anything—electrical or otherwise—with creativity and his faculty for friendly conversation with anyone. They will also miss his admirable personal ethics, unmatched bullshit detector, quick wit, and unwavering resolve. A celebration of his life will be held in the summer of 2023 for family and his many friends. Details to come. Her husband, Clyde Very, passed away in 2017.
Born in White Mills, she is the daughter of the late Edward Wulff Sr. and Elvira McCullon Wulff. Prior to retiring, she was a secretary for her husbands construction business. She was a member of Saint Patrick Church in Nicholson. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Eleanor was also an avid bird watcher and flower gardener. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and was a huge Yankee fan. Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Reed; a son, Danny Very; a brother, Edward Wulff; four sisters, Mary Oakley, Patricia James, Rose Dubrachek, and Elizabeth Hortman; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, John Wulff; and a sister, Theresa Smith. A blessing service by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be Wednesday, March 8 at 11:00am in the Charles H. Born in Traverse City, Michigan she is the daughter of the late Roscoe and Olive Decker Taylor. Prior to retiring she was a seamstress. Shirley is also survived by a daughter, Teresa Wademan; two sons, Rick and Edward Wademan; a brother, David Taylor, 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Yavonne Lysak; a grandson, Clyde Hutchins III; and a grand daughter, Melody Cummings. A private service will be held at a later date. Dianna Wilkins, 81, formerly of Hop Bottom passed away Wednesday February 1, 2023 at The Gardens at Tunkhannock.
Her husband, Erwin (Butch) Wilkins passed away in 2013. Born in Factoryville, she is the daughter of the late Frank and Blodwin Evans Driscole. Prior to retiring she and her husband owned and operated the Red Chanticleer restaurant in Factoryville. Dianna is survived by two daughters, Coralee Evans (Billy) and Dianna Decker (Will); and two sons, Edwin Wilkins (Annie) and Keith Wilkins (Margaret); ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Erwin Wilkins Jr. A private family service will be held at a later date. Roger D. Bennett, 72, of Newton Township, died Tuesday January 24, 2023 at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Born July 6, 1950 he is the son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Bennett. He was a Clarks Summit resident for the last twenty years, formerly living in Hop Bottom. A 1968 graduate of Mountain View High School, Roger was a farmer and a logger. He created Bennett's Logging where he was self-employed prior to retirement. Roger loved the outdoors and had his greatest memories hunting and fishing with family and friends. When not outdoors, Roger would be found in his garage with the latest project he was working on. He was always free to visit with whoever stopped by for some stories. He will always be remembered by family and friends for having the best ability to tell stories of the past that made you laugh until you cried. He will also be remembered for being the pinochle player in our family. In recent years Roger also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Lyla and Owen. He will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him. Surviving Roger is his wife of 47 years, Beth Bennett; a brother, Bob Bennett, Hop Bottom; his daughter, Laurie, Clarks Summit; a son, Isaac (Diana) Bennett of Denver, CO.; and granddaughter Lyla and grandson Owen. Roger was predeceased in addition to his parents by a sister, Lois York; and a son, Raymond Bennett. The funeral will be Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11am in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Interment will be held in Abington Hills Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 5 to 7pm. Gerard Lockwood Sr, 61, of Kingsley passed away Wednesday, January 11 at the Regional Hospital Of Scranton.
Born in Binghamton, NY he is the son of Russell Lockwood and the late Betty Irene Tiffany Lockwood. Prior to retiring he had been employed at Holly Label and had served in the United States Armed Forces stationed in Korea. He loved working on the family farm, hunting, and playing scratch off lottery tickets. Gerard is survived by two sons, Brian Lockwood and Gerard Lockwood Jr.; and a daughter, Elizabeth Lockwood. Services will be held at a later date. Daniel N. Squier, 67, of Springville died Sunday, December 25 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
His wife is Kathy Cokely Squier and they have been married for 47 years. Born in Meshoppen on January 17, 1955 he is the son of the late Clifton and Lillian Noble Squier. He was an Air Force veteran and proud to be a farmer. Dan loved his wife, children, grandchildren and friends dearly. He was always willing to help anyone and if he had something to say, he would say it. He collected International Harvester farm equipment and was a Dodge fanatic. Dan is also survived by three daughters, Brandy Teel, Danielle McMicken, and Amanda Pierson; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Jason; two brothers, Frank and Jesse; and a sister, Isabell Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Interment will follow in the Jason Squier Cemetery. Viewing hours are Friday 11am until service time. Franklin K. Rood, 83, of Nicholson died Thursday December 22 at Abington Manor in Clarks Summit.
His wife is Linda Squier Rood and they have been married for 55 years. Born in Lenoxville, Franklin is the son of the late Herbert and Madeline Conrad Rood. Frank was well known for making recut saws for stone quarry work and for his blacksmith work. He enjoyed his orchard and growing plants in his greenhouse. Frank is also survived by a sister, Irene Harding. He was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Herbert, and Lindley; and four sisters, Janice Antoine, Donna Valentine, Linda Griffin, and Nellie Stanton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Factoryville Ambulance. Dona L. Warner, 86, of Clifford Township passed away Friday, December 9 at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband, James D. Warner Sr. died in 2011.
Born in Harford Township, she is the daughter of the late Ivan and Florance Whitney Brainard. A special thank you goes to her great granddaughter, Katelynn Taylor for her loving care. Dona is survived by two daughters, Kim Payne (Dale) and Debbie Strawn; a sister, Sue Borowicz; a brother, Ronnie Brainard; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Will and Donnie; two daughters, LouAnn and Racine; two sisters, Arneta Sanauskas and Lynnette McAlla; and two brothers, Ivan and Lynn. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home with services by Rev. William R. Hagenbuch. Interment will follow in the Clifford Valley Cemetery.
